Default Do I need a low temp gauge

On a 2003 Ram HEMI 5.7, I have installed a Scuperchip, K&N CAI, Edelbrock Headers, Flowmaster duals. Would I benefit from installing a low temp thermostat in it?

The tuner by way of advancing the timing and the CAI & Headers by way of more air flow, would all act to lean out the mixture so in my opinion, the lower temperature thermostat (which would "fool" the PCM into richening the mixture) could not hurt you in any way and even though you might either not notice any better performance and could possible lose a fraction of an mpg in fuel economy, would probably benefit the engine over the long haul...

That's kinda what I was thinking. I thought I was running lean and this would fix that. Thanks for the advice.

Who's to say you weren't running a bit rich stock and now it's perfect? I wouldn't make blind guesses.

Besides, cooler thermostats are yesterday's news. An engine is most efficient and makes most power when at proper operating temp. You're most likely to just waste gas as the computer keeps trying to reach normal operating temp.

With his list of mods, I'd put my last $ he's a bit lean. Enough to cause an issue at some point, probably not since he's getting no CEL.
That said, it would be a benefit to take it somewhere to know right where it's at.
My local performance shop tested mine right after I installed the headers and I was lean, not CEL lean, but not far off. It was at their tech's suggestion that I installed the lower temp thermostat. A VERY CHEAP solution as compared to a piggyback A/F controller or a custome tune!!!

I am receiving a P0132 code, but I ordered a sim for that. Also ordered the temp gauge. I'll let you know how it turns out.

What did the sim set you back?

You could have used a non-fouler for about $5! The sim will probably be fine, but some report it doesn't work. I've never had the "non-fouler trick" not work. Try it if you can't get the sim to keep the CEL off...

Just found out that the sim is on back order so I guess I'll try the non-fouler trick.

Yeah, personally I think it should be an automatic mod with a "canned tuner" and headers.
