Default Engine shutoff

Hi, new guy here.

I have this problem with my truck ( 04 ram 1500 QC) that everytime i fill up the gas tank and start it, it ends up dying. It tries to die when im driving it ( only after i put gas in it) and i just punch it so it doesnt.

It runs great other than dying after the visit to the gas station. Im thinking maybe just a new fuel filter? What do you guys think?

Also my check engine light is on for the evap hoses being disconnected/bad/broken im not sure but is that a big deal at all? and on a average how much would it cost to fix.

Try leaving the gas cap off and run the engine. It may not be allowing air to vent into the tank which will cause a vacuum to build up. After the vacuum has become sufficient it makes the pump work harder until it cannot overcome the vacuum. I'm not sure how common this occurs in gassers as the pump is in the tank but on diesel (read semis) this can be an issue. Definitely give it a shot. Also the evap code is usually related to a bad gas cap anyway.

An evap leak issue could be the culprit of all your problems. Trace the entire evap system from one end to the other. Odds are your system leak is the result of a dry rotted/broken hose end, probably right at the cannister. If that's the case you can cut the bad end off and reconnect it. Worst case would be to re-run the tubing yourself. If you can operate a screwdriver and loosen/tighten a hose clamp, you could do it yourself. Cost would be minimal to about $0. Unless, of course, you'd like to make a sizeable donation for this advice ...
