Default Quick HEMI question

Hey everyone!
i picked up my ram bout 2 weeks ago its a 06 QC 25k mi hemi 5.7 big horn edition. I really like it alot better in the snow i used to have a mustang GT so this a a whole new ballpark for me.
Anyways my question is, I would like to have a more aggressive sound out of my truck. I dont want it to drone or be really loud just somthing with more all around growl.
I would like somthing to help my gas milage a little as well but im assuming in order to do that i need a whole cat back system. Do you recommend I go with a y pipe and duals? or stay with the single pipe? I love the look of duals, but as i said this hemi thing is new territory for me.

The options im looking at right now are as follows
1. Cut out muffler, replace with straight pipe.
2. Leave muffler cut out resonator.
3. cut out both and replace with straight pipe
4. leave resonator and put a flowmaster 40 in.

I really appreciate all your input! merry xmas!

On my D, I cut out the muffler and resonator and put in a 40series. Sounds pretty good imo, but there is some drone. Id imagine having any straight pipe would be purrty loud, and "droneish" too, but I don't know from personal experience, besides my own setup.

As far as mpg's, good luck keeping your foot out of it, thats the only way they'll improve I lost about 1.5-2 after my exhaust change, I just have to hear that thing talk to me (thats in my ram, the D hasn't changed at all, yet)

Merry Christmas to you too!

Cat back duals are fine, but if you want better performance as well as sound, ditch the Flowmaster idea. Their chambered design mufflers are quite restrictive, often more so than stock. For performance and a little more sound, think Magnaflow or Borla, if it's sound on par with the FM40, then think about the Cherry Bomb Vortex or even crazier sound then the CB Extreme.
I did the cat back thing and a FM50HD in about June of '04 when my truck was less than a month old. Flowmaster really pushed the 50HD as specially designed for the Hemi, it sounds great, but is quite restrictive. I followed up about two years ago with LT Headers and am waiting for the FM to start to show signs of rust so I can justify cutting it out and welding in a Cherry Bomb...

i guess im prolly gonna go as cheap as i can
fuel econ isnt a major issue. Does anyone know what combo i should go with if i choose either cut a resonator or the muffler out? I was thinking ditch the resonator and keep the stock muffler would prolly give me kinda the sound i want.
Also will this change effect the ECU or the MDS at all? I dont want to ruin anything. ( I dont think it will but i heard it from a friend) so im double checking!
thanks!

on my 06 i just slid the exhaust off right infront of the muffler so i only have the front resonator its not super loud but when the mds kicks on sounds wierd.. as long as you dont remove an o2 there wont be any ill effects also in my experience removing the exhaust i got worst gas milage (maybe the foot factor) also lost with a cold intake

I'm getting my muffler replaced with a 40 series flow and having the resonator removed this coming monday. I'll try to get a sound clip up after the change.

alright that would be great! cant wait to hear it!
I got a couple estimates today to change out the muffler and keep the resonators. if i go with a single pipe they wanted like $160 to cut and weld a new one in. if i go duals like $300 that seems really high to me???
i had a buddy get stright pipe duals on his chevy for like $175 last year
thats more the range i was lookin at i know the muffler will cost a little extra but that seems high to me??

Well, the guy thats doing my exhaust on monday is going to replace my stock muffler with the 40, fill in the gap with extra pipe, cut and remove the resonator and replace with extra pipe. Cost of labor and the new muffler is going to be $175.

So yeah, the $160 just to add in a new piece of pipe seems a little ridiculous. Your buddy's price sounds about right because of the extra labor involved. I'd call around to other places or try talking the price down.

Thumbs up

I had a 50 series flowmaster installed, they cut out the stock muffler and resonator and installed a pipe where resonator was and then installed the flowmaster and new tailpipe. I opted for the single exhaust with a 50 series. Tried the 40 series and the drone was terrible. It now has a real deep tone, and sounds really nice. Still a slight drone at about 2000 rpm, but not bad and its quite on the freeway....unless you open it up!!!
