old timers
Hah!!!!
Man I still own a Sears Timing light and have a BRASS set of feeler guages somewhere in my tool box. Mallory and /accel points---I remeber getting my wrist cut whan I was helping a buddy set up the timing on his 390 AMX!! Ever been ZAPPED by a mallory high energy coil----yah, that smarts.
Back in the day when a kid had no money for a new set of points, or when you were gapping an old set, you'd run a dollar bill between the point contacts to polish them up before gapping.
Anybody remember setting up the float levels on the old holley carbs and running gas all over the intake, or getting a manifold leak, backfiring back through the intake and blowing the power valve out, causing the carb to flood the intake with fuel??
Yep--I'm an old guy--52 the end of Jan
The only difference between back then and now is trying to get down under the car and then try to get back up----damn I hate getting old.

Try it at 41, after three right knee surgeries, two back surgeries, a left knee surgery and a double hernia that I can't have taken care of because I lost my benefits two years ago. I'd almost spot you the 11 years...
I voted for 1 and 2, and im only 20 years, We have multiple timing lights in the shop, dont know why just somehow acquired them over the years, I cant even remember how many sets of points i have changed/filed to get spark.

Man, you ain't been zapped till you touch the flyback on an old TV or CRT monitor! I know it's not truck related, but you just reminded me of it. When you learned to work on one, you taught lefty's how to work on them right handed. The voltage hit the right hand & exits the right foot. You hit it with the left hand, the heart gets in the way & sometimes stops beating. THAT'S NEVER GOOD!!!

Good Luck with the knees--I don't envy you
No Thanks on the 11 year spot---I already been down the back surgery route once--I have partial parallysis (?) on both legs---"Oh my aching back", but I do understand what you're saying. I'm lucky enough to have a good job in the industrial refrig industy with a BIG Pharma company---we make stuff REALLY COLD!!! -100F +.
