wow i never even noticed that there before, that's pretty cool because its like a reflector under the clear plate that just reflects either green or yellow without even using a light to let you know how the battery is...interesting...

You'll see the price and change your mind...

Yeah and when it's -32 degrees outside and you are 23 miles outside of town and don't have your cell phone with you, the sucker can reflect red too...

The Optima's have more Reserve power than the average battery. I have on in my Mustang. They are a very solid quality battery. However, they must be fully charged before any drain is placed upon them. They are a dry cell sealed battery which is diff. than the conventional battery. I paid $129 from Advance Auto and could have got one for $99 shipped to my door, but I wanted the piece of mind I could go back to the store if something happened to it. Been 4yrs now and nothing. The Red top was only $119. I don't like red anything, so I got yellow which has more reserve capacity anyways. A duralst is a Sears battery. And there's not even a battery out there that's half price of an Optima anymore. I went out to buy a battery for my stratus and the cheapest battery that was on the floor available was $69.99

Also, My 2000 Silverado had the origional battery when I traded it in back in March '08. The truck had 76kmi.

One last thing, the green light usually goes from dark neon green to a light green and then black most of the time. My Chevy battery was light green after 8yrs.

Optimas are a good battery but that doesn't mean they're not over priced. I dunno what advance auto you're talking about but they sell red tops for $170...autozone for $160. Yellows are even more..starting in the $200's. You can look all this up on their own sites. Do you have a link for the $99 shipped to your door for a red top?

A normal battery is more than good enough for most people unless you have a really good audio system...which most don't. Yea a lot of batteries will last longer then 5 years but I wouldn't trust it...it's not worth being stranded. Duralasts are sold at other places besides Sears....autozone being one. And again..they cost almost half the price.

I just looked at my reciept and i paid $149, my mistake, but this was almost 4years ago.
I did check on Ebay and found a Red Top 750cca amp post/side mounts combo for only $125 shipped

I didn't. I was just making a point that besides just the pretty green and yellow, it also has a red ball. But you really don't want to see it...

Now for those of you griping about what an optims costs. When I had my bass boat, I used to have to replace my deep cycles (2 of 'em) every year. The bargain ones at Wally World were about $90 each. Another tourney fisherman suggested the Optimas to me, saying he's had the same issue and was on the third year with his. So I bought them, not cheap for the yeller ones, I think I gave about $189 each for 'em. But when I sold the boat 4 years later, it still had the same batteries in it and they still held a charge pretty much like when they were new.
Now in the end, which was cheaper?

One of the guys I work with, is a farmer with 3 boys. He has a ctd and swears by the optima. He's told me his kids have hooked the bat up backwards when trying to jump a tractor and never done any noticable harm to it. In fact he also told me the same bat that had been so misused was the one he originally had in his big block racecar---alchohol camaro--. If we were taking a Poll here--I'd be voting for the optima red or yellow.

In 2001 I Trunk Mounted the big 1100cca, D31, Yellow top Optima in my Hot Rod Lincoln.

Last year sometime in july or August the alternator quit but the battery allowed me to drive approx; 30mi home
before showing any sign of discharge.
