Maybe yes maybe no. Hemiyellow had his painted and I think raiderjay has his painted too. Maybe they will let you know how the handles are holding up?

I'd think so. The actual door handel and surrounding is kinda rough like mentioned. I know they have the smooth chrome door handel kits that cover everything. I imagine it would be easier just to paint a cover than to take apart a door, remove the handels, sand them smooth, then prep/paint. The kits aren't expensive either, so if you screw it up, it's not that big of a deal.

Here's all 4 with the tail gate. I'm sure it wouldn't be difficult just to prep/paint them.

Id give that a shot as well, cheap way to go and if you make a mistake, no big deal, your truck will still be the same.

Default What about painting Chrome pieces?

I have been wanting to do the same thing to all of my chrome pieces on my truck and I was just wondering how hard it is to do it?

I want to repaint my Billet grill and Bug guard which are both chrome and I want them to match the rest of the truck just like the Sport models of the Ram but I cant seem to find anyone on the web that sells this sort of stuff that is reasonable. (under $500 or so)

If I was to do it at local paint shop would I have to sand off all of the Chrome or and can I just paint over them?

Thanks

yeah i've painted my handles and lots of other peoples handles for their cars...

like the others have said, preping em is the biggest thing to making them last...I haven't had any issues with mine chipping what-so-ever and they've been done for 1 1/2 years....

I'm working on doing a DIY as soon as i get another set of door handles in to do, otherwise I may just end up painting the spare handle I have in my toolbox. But the main steps are to remove all the wax and whatnot from the handles, sand it down with some 400 grit paper, spray some adhesion promoter, primer, color and clear....I'll work on getting a DIY done over the next few days....let ya know when it's done

here's a pic of when i painted the last ones for a guy here in town that also has a yellow truck lol

well...it depends how many coats of paint you want to do....i put 3 coats of color on all of the ones i do.....not sure really how much i used cause i just keep using them untill they gone on different jobs and what not......but if i remember right from when i did my own handles, it took like 1 1/2 cans...but i bought my paint right from the dealer so that way it was an exact match

if your gonna do the grille too....i'd say 3 cans would be suffice
