Painting Door Handles
I was just wanting some feedback on painting the door handles. I was wanting to paint mine to match my paint. I plan on primering, painting, and clearing them. Will they still chip/flake off with use? Any advice with help. Thanks
when painting plastic, it is nesecery to mix in some type of flex agent into the mix. this will help with the wear on the handles. ever seen a painted splash guard that has spider cracks in it. that because there is no flex agent mixed into the mix. any paint supply store has it. also, to do the job correctly. remove them from the door.

Flex paint is not needed if you do a proper prep job! Also, the handles don't flex like a bumper anyways. Just because they are plastic has nothing to do with anything except color match. You'll need a lighter coloered primer and a few coats before paint. Plastic just absorbs paint diff is all.
The biggest problem you have is sanding those handles smooth enough to accept paint. They are an ABS plastic that has a rough finish to them. Also, you may get minor flaking where the door handle recesses and slides out. it will rub there and cause some minor issues, but other than that. Go for it.
ok thanks for the input. i planned on buying some new ones just to use them as a test run to make sure it will look right.
