Default EGR valve

Got a check engine light on the truck a few days ago, so when I popped the hood and the engine was still there I though sweet (Crisis averted)! Just kidding, I initailly tried checking the code with my OBD2 reader and apparently it doesn't read the new truck?! So I reset the PCM by pulling the fuse and waited to see how long/if the dummy light would pop again, 4 days later, this morning it did. Took the truck to the dealer and it's throwing an EGR code, so they have one on order. She's got just over 10k miles and I just threw on a Magnaflow cat back on a month and a half ago. My thoughts are it shouldn't be related to the cat back and possibly may just be a poor part from the factory. Has anyone else experienced this problem? Also, I'm wondering what's wrong with my code reader, this is the model I've been using on my past cars http://store.summitracing.com/partde...?part=equ-3100, has anything changed for newer vechicles?

I just had the check engine light come on as well. It was sending a EGR code as well. I spent a few days looking for a new one and the only place I can find one was at the dealer for 90 bucks. Luckily it went out and has not come on since.

I just bought a code reader. I bought one that will also read CAN Bus protocol. I don't have an '08 but Dodge might have changed the OBDII protocols with the '08 computer.

My $25 reader works great for me. I havent tried on an 08 though. $90 for an EGR? yikes, I spent $40 shipped. But yea, an EGR issue with only 10,000 miles wow. When you take it apart you should see if it looks gunked up. If not then it must have been faulty.

Where did you find yours at? I have an 06 with the 5.7. I went to Advanced Auto, AutoZone, Napa, and I few others. They all showed up in the computer but had none in stock and could not order any. If it is going to act up again I am going to replace it. 40 bucks is alot nicer.

more than likely, it will give you a code again. There is a sensor in the EGR that lets the computer know where it is at in terms of position, if the sensor starts going bad, and I'm guessing yours is, its going to throw a code. I would think it would be under warranty though as its part of the emmisions of the truck, and I would think it would be covered.

They're fixing it, no arguement there not even from the dealership. Everything is covered under warranty.

I bought mine from RockAuto.com and I just checked and the price is $32.79. With shipping I ended up paying $42.08. I also ran into the same problem as you trying to find a store that actually had it in their warehouse. I almost bought one off ebay for $60 until I found this site through a member on the forums here. Glad I did and everything worked out great.

I was gonna say... That's an emissions part -- very likely has a 100K warranty.
