Default Differential Shudder - 3/4 ton HEMI

I have a 2004 3/4 ton with HEMI and 65,000 miles. When pulling from a stop, while towing a trailer and turning right or left, I get a strong vibration in the rear train. It goes away after a couple seconds, once I get going.

It does not do it when pulling straight but pretty much always when I pull my trailer (4000 lbs) and turn during a start. I think it has done it once or twice without the trailer when I tried to turn and take off quickly.

This all seems to be related to the Anti-Slip Differential (which I have on this truck).

I had changed the diff. oil at 20k and again at 45-50k when the driveshaft seal leaked (had it replaced at the dealership). I used Amsoil 75W90 with NO additives. The dealer used MOPAR oil I would think.

Now, I am not too familiar with the operation of the Anti-slip differential but I have gathered from all the posts that the 3/4 ton does not have clutches (which could have explained the shudder I get). I do not know if the dealership might have added the Anti-slip additive ... I am not sure if it would create that problem anyway.

Has anybody ever experienced the same issue ?

Thanks !

I had the same thing with my 2004 2500 4x4. I changed the rear diff fluid to Mobil1 and the shudder went away. I don't know if that will solve your problem, but it couldn't hurt to pull the diff cover off and take a look and refill with some fresh fluid. Good luck.
