Hella light install - wiring ?
I was installing the Hella 500FF lights in the front of the truck tonight though I've ran into a bit of a snag. One of the wires is suppose to go to the "hot" wire on the head lamps. I have an 08 with the new light bulb style with a 3 prong connector for the lights. I used a volt meter and found that 2 of the 3 are "hot" when lows are on and 1 of the 3 is "hot" when high beams are on. However, the same wire that is "hot" with high beams on is also "hot" when the lows are on...
What am I missing I know many of you have done this mod...
Please help! thanks!

my "goal" was to actually eliminate the switch and have the switch be the power from the high beams, if I cannot get that to work, I'll just have to install the switch as the power source directly.
even with the switch per the wiring diagram the "source" for the switch is suppose to the be the high-beam power source this way the lights only go on when using high beams. Guess worst case I'll just run a power source straight from the battery and have the switch work anytime.
I wired mine directly, so I can turn them on whenever.
DirtyDog did a write up on wiring for the lights. My switch has a light so there are actually two power wires. I have both going to the battery. Your lights should have come with a relay and a switch if you bought the set.

Correct, it has a relay and a switch. The power for the switch is suppose to come from the high-beam power wire and then goes into the switch, and then into the relay. This allows the lights to only go on when the high-beams are on. My thought is that rather than the switch, I just wire the "on" lead to the high-beams. Basically just like leaving the switch in the ON position all of the the time.
But, I cannot find the power wire for the headlights when on high

I just wired mine directly up to the battery with an inline fuse. I used no relay for switched power. The only switched power I have is a toggle switch. I have to activate it when I want the lights on. They will not come on if the high beams are on, but only if i flick the switch.

Thats a cool idea to do it that way. I just ran the wire you are speaking of directly to the battery because I didn't know what wire to run it to. I sometimes leave it on when I have the truck off. Thats the only problem.
