That all depends on the quality and manufacturer.
As most things, especially hoods, you get what you pay for period.

Also, there are many guys running around upstate NY with Fiberglass hoods in the wintertime with no problems. Actually, vette hoods are fiberglass, my stock Mustang hood was fiberglass with metal reinforcment on the underside. There are more fiberglass hood out there than you realize. Hell, look at Saturn, the whole damn car is plastic!

P.S. RaiderJay6, you suck man, I coulda drove over to pick that thing up.....lol

Well, there is some sort of justification to every mod. As someone said his hood lowered the temperature under his hood to almost perfect operating temperature, then that's justification to purchase a hood.
Some other time, maybe when I go off to college, and can get the school to paint my hood for cheaper.

I like the old hood better. I do not like water getting under the hood.

This is the same hood as supercar1of1 has. After seeing his I had to get it. The only thing I didnt like about the old hood is its a GM style hood.

All mods are justifiable just have to make sure you have an awesome and understanding wife!

You and me are on the same page. After seeing his, I feel in love with the looks of his hood, and wanted to get one. Unfortunately, things are being a pick and choose thing.

And for those saying fiberglass is riskier, it is, and it isn't. As stated, the Corvettes have fiberglass hoods. Out on the farm, our big wheat trucks have fiberglass hoods. Miles and miles of country roads, rocks flying from big semis, and they still look great. Fiberglass is more expensive to paint, because it's more finicky than steel. It takes more time and care to sand down the fiberglass to avoid ripples in the material, whereas steel won't do that like fiberglass.

What do you think happens when it rains out or you run into a puddle? The engine gets a splash here and there.

Also, I religiously pressure wash my engine off when I wash my vehicles. I open the hood every other time. (not for the inexperienced or things can get F*ed up)
Just hope he doesn't have an open air filter under those vents!
