Default High Voltage issue

Is there anyway to adjust the output voltage from the alternator. I use an inverter regularly in my '08 Ram. The high voltage keeps shutting it down, making it useless. I checked with volt meter, getting 14.5-14.8 volts. Any ideas????

Where are you connecting the inverter? The alternator will always give above 12v, because in order to charge the battery it needs that higher voltage. If your inverter is designed to connect where you have it, I think you have a bad inverter. 14 - 15 volts is an normal output for an alternator.

+1, you should always have 13.5 to 14.5 volts when running. Your inverter is bad.

So yours hook direct to the battery or through the 12 volt outlet.

Interesting. I just got an big inverter that I have failed to hook up yet but mine is made to hook up to the battery. I will look at the owners manual with mine to see if it says anything about this.

I have used them in the past and never had an issue with over voltage. Especially only 14.5V.

I have it hooked straight to the battery with #6 wire. I used this inverter in my other truck for a year or so. I thought it was bad at first, so I got another one. Does the same thing. Varies on how fast it shuts off. Called mfg. they said anything close to 15 volts will shut it off.

Would a more restrictive wire cut down on the volts getting to the inverter?

Just an quick idea that I myself aren't to sure about.

chrysler charging systems are on full charge or off there is no in between the voltage at the bat should stay steady around 14v but the pcm turns the alt on and off. you will notice this more with a diesel on cold start. After you start the truck in a few sec it will start to charge lights go bright blower picks up speed then it will stop charging things go bact to where they were. Diesels take more power to start and you will notice this on and off more . but thats the way chrysler works things there is no way to increase charge rate
