Default waste spark or not???

Ok ive been researching the hemi engine, (mainly just readin up on it) and i thought that the 03-05 model year had a "waste spark ignition" explains the reason why the plug wire comes off the coil over to the other side...but everything ive been reading says they fire at the same time creating better combustion and solving the emissions prob, if they fire at the same time on the compression stroke, why have the friggin 3ft ignition wire go over to the other side of the motor? sounds like more cost and more resistance...right? why not just have the lil guy that goes the coil next to it like 06-08 models? does my model year have waste spark ignition? or not...?

Yes. That is the reason for the spark plug wires.

I think it was a back-up system so if one coil failed, the other plug would still fire and get you home with a check engine light on.

It's all about emissions...with two plugs you get a better and more complete burn. Your truck will be fine if you put some shortie wires on to make it more like the 06+ setup.
