Default 04 4.7 vs. 02 5.4?

Ok I was just wondering what majority says...

I have a buddy who has an 02 5.4 f150 with 3.55's, and 305-16 mud terrains. I did a little research, and he's running 260 hp, 350 ft.. lb tq. hes stock, completely stock.

My truck is an 04 4.7, 3.55's, 265-17's. I have a CAI, power wire, and throttle body spacer. My is rated at (what?....) 235 hp, and 300 ft lb tq?

both trucks weigh relatively the same....he keeps trying to get me to run with him. I think off the line I could have a chance, but past 50-60 im done.... i would think.

Whad ya'll think?

PS street racing is bad and illegal... dont do it

No replacement for displacement, the 330 cubic inch ford 2 v 5.4 has it over your 280 cubic inch 4.7, but the taller tires on the Ford kill any quick get up and go, esp with the 355 gears, with stock rubber and the mods to your 4.7, THe ford has no chance..

I owned a 02 F-150 4x4 ex cab short box with the 5.4 amd 355 ltd slip, it was pretty quick, not hemi quick, but way quicker the dog assed 5.4 3v that was in my 04 F-150..

i agree, the big mudding tires on the ford would slow him down a lot. are yalls trucks 2wd or 4wd? what kind of truck is it exactly- crew, extended, quad, reg? all of these would make a big difference? also manual or auto?

You will have 2 big advantages over the ford in the race though... the biggest thing is that he has a very slow 4 speed trans (good for durability, but terrible for towing or racing) and you have a 5 speed trans in his truck. That will get you out of the box alot faster and will make up a bit of that HP and TQ difference. The fact that his tires are 2.5'' bigger than stock is going to hurt his gear ratio by a bit. Many people around here notice that when just going from the stock 33'' tires to just 35's. His gears are probably around the 3.20 range or so due to the bigger tires. Also the fact that you have a CAI and the PW means that your Throttle response should be slightly faster. With all of that said I would say that it would be a close race, but I think that you have the edge. I raced a friend of mine in a similar situation. We both have 4x4 SBQC trucks... mine the 05 ram with the 4.7 on 33'' tires and stock 3.92 gears, his 06 with the 5.4 and 35'' BFG mud terrains. Needless to say the fords are dogs in the gasser department and don't have a powerful drivetrain at all. I drove his truck and man that thing couldn't move any slower. lol

Our trucks are both four wheel drive, and both crew cabs. I looked up the specs online, and they are within 100 pounds curb weight. I know, fuel, car seat, i know the variables. I think might have the edge until higher speeds, then his bigger motor will lug past me.

BTW, does my 04 4.7 have a governor?

I just talked to him, and told him we should run em...hahaha.

I feel 18 again... "lets run em"... f@*&, what am i doing? haha
