Default Warranty question

I got my 06 ram about month ago. It had about 24k on it when i bought it.
It has the 3 yr 30,000 mi warranty on it. The dealer gave me the option to buy an extended 7 yr 70k warranty for it at the time i bought it or anytime before the warranty expires. I opted not to at the time of purchase, but now im considering it, the cost is like $1750. Any opinions? is it worth it? I mean what are the advantages? Ive never owned a vehicle with any warranty
thanks
-Scott

I bought the extended 5yr warranty from the dealership I bought my truck from. Bumper to bumper, supposedly. As part of the package I chose, I have cool little "perks", such as if I blow/cut a tire, bend a rim, its all covered under warranty (up to $200 per tire, $5000 max between the two). That in itself sold me......

I would suggest to get the warranty if you have the coin. I feel a lot better about slightly beating on my truck knowing its covered, whereas my Durango isn't

Generally the costly repairs don't come until after 70 or 80kmi for the most part, but then again I do everything myself.
There was a few guys on here talking that they purchased a lifetime bumper to bumper warranty that didn't cost more than what they are trying to charge you! I would call them up and see if that's something they offer. I would also call up different dealerships and see what they charge and compare.

Dealerships try to offer the warranty that will profit them the most. Trust me on this one! I used to be a Finance manager.
They probably asked you about rust preventative too, which isn;t really a preventative more than it's a caked on crap that only costs them $75 per vehicle in which they pay the schmuck around the corner to do and charge you $600. Ziebart does a much better job and warranties their work for $250

If you plan on doing anything aftermarket to your truck, I wouldn't bother with the warranty as they will try and not cover you anyway possible. It's not like the old days where they would do whatever possible to get you covered. It's all money, money, money and screw the customer. That's why i got out of the business

exactly, if they thought for one minute they were going to have to pay out on it they wouldn't offer it to you. there is a chance it could save you some money ( if you haven't moded ) but the truth is there is a greater chance you will never get the $$$ value back. and to be honest, there are some parts on these truck i would far rather spend the money on quality after market parts than a warranty to replace a known weak or poorly designed part with the same garbage.

I was in the same boat sort of. I bought my certified used ram with 22K miles on it. They offered me the Lifetime powertrain warranty for $950, I took it and beleive it will payoff. The dealer however completely failed to mention the $100 deductible or that there were more warranty options available.

The deductible I can live with, $100 to replace a c-clip or a transfer case is doable. However I think I am going to upgrade to the Maxcare Lifetime warranty for an extra $2K, Seems from the list it will be worth it.

An if I dont do that I will probably go for the Powertrain Plus for the extra $200 just to cover the AC and steering.

You can view more warranty options and even get pricing from:

http://www.dodge.com/en/service_contracts/

Or you can purchase them from http://www.chryslerwarrantys.com/

I never buy extended warranties. I was offered the lifetime bumper to bumper warranty for like 1,700 bucks if I remember correctly. Turned it down. The truck already has a lifetime powertrain warranty.

Believe me, they would not be selling extended warranties unless they made money on them. They are a business and are supposed to be making money.

Of course! The goal is to not have the truck break down, so they have your money up front whether you use it or not. Bump-to-bump is 36,000 and now a lifetime powertain warranty. I feel pretty good about the warranty as is. Plus, I am tight... LOL

True, But the powertrain warranty is very limited, Does not cover stuff like CV joints, Steering, AC, Steering, Etc... All of which is common stuff to go and can be very expensive to fix.
