Warranty question
#12
Any warranty is like insurance. Both the insurance companies and the warranty companies will try to weasel out of paying.
If you decide to get the warranty take your time, ASK QUESTIONS; if you don't put on that many miles they might have an lower mileage limit with the same time frame and vice versa.
Be smart what ever you decide. Situations among people and their vehicle are usually different so make your own decision. GOOD LUCK!

Yeah, I too will be doing a ton of modding. Although it will probably be a year or so until I can afford to really get started. I will probably not spend the money on the extra warranty.
I am happy to have the powertrain warranty though, Because I use my 4wd for small things like getting off my gravel driveway w/o pushing all the gravel back and navigating icy roads. From what I understand and read I am guarenteed to kill my transfer case eventually. Also I beleive I am prone to the dreaded C-Clip issue.

as mentioned a couple of times previously, modding can / may void your warranty. they will try anything to get out of paying for any reason, over sized tires, lift, CAI, exhaust, chip all cause the vehicle to operate outside factory parameters, they will try to void your warranty.

I saw on here earlier something about modding only affecting the warranty on the parts that you modded. I don't plan on modding the power train at all with the exception of a Ram air setup And Headers.

they can try, i know a guy who had a CAI and turbo back exhaust put on by the dealer before pick up and now they will not fix his head gasket. reason: engine has been modded with after market parts, doesn't matter they installed them. so he has ~ a 1 year old $60K truck that need thousands in work and no warranty anymore. this is in Canada though, maybe they are more lenient in the US.
i have 1 year 3 months to go before i can get to work on my truck, counting down

If you plan on keeping your truck after the basic 3/36000, these warranties can be a good investment. The 7/70 only covers the Powertrain. After 3/36000, your on your own. Ball joints, tie rods, water pump, A/C problems, blend door breakage, electrical problems, power steering pump replacement, fuel filter/pump problems, power seat track problems, etc. are not covered after the 3/36000 runs out. Any one of these that need to be replaced/repaired can cost you the price of the policy. Personally, I got the 7/75000 EasyCare Total Coverage when I bought the truck and have already made claims against it after the 3/36000 ran out. My truck is all stock and I follow the maintenance schedules religiously. After reading about all of the non-powertrain problems that can go wrong on these trucks, I consider it cheap insurance. Providing of course you plan on keeping the truck throughout the extended warranty period. My plan cost $1200 and I feel quite confident that by the end of the coverage period, the insurance company will be glad when my policy expires.
