Default How do you know what gears you have?

I'm interested in the 4.56 gears. I want to know for sure what gears I have... I don't know how to tell. Any help?

this is another one going into the FAQ section when I make it!

You should have a sticker inside the glove box, if it's been removed, there should be a tag on the rear axle. If you go 0 for 2, get on the Dodge Truck website and request a "build sheet"...

Doesn't matter what you have, the 4:56's will make a big difference!
Maybe you can compare your rpm guage to another members?
You could alsochalk your tires to the ground and your driveshaft and see how many times the driveshaft rotates for 1 complete revolution of your wheel. That's just a rough estimate though.

If that is a Frequently asked question, then I must not know how to use the search feature correctly.

Thanks for the answer.

You've either got 3.55s (normal) or 3.92s if you have the factory tow package. If you're running ~2200rpm at 70mph, you've got 3.92s

Then I probably have the 3.92s. I have no stickers to tell me. Thanks.

DON'T ASSUME that just because you have a tow package that you have 3.92s. (I know, assenine ain't it). The gears were/are a separate line item and specifying one doesn't automatically give you another. That's why sales managers or salesmen shouldn't be the ones ordering vehicles.
4x4's come through without tow hooks and skid plates all the time also, again assenine!

Nope guys, check your gears before you assume anything...

i have a 2004 SLT 1500 2WD Quad Cab with the 5.7 Hemi.

When I requested a build sheet I was told I have the 3.92 gears with Limited Slip Differential. I also have the factory 20" wheels.

I would like to get a 6" lift and 35" tires in the future. I do a lot of towing. Why would I want to go with 4.56 gears? What are the pro's and con's?

Are my factory 3.92 gears worth anything? how much are 4.56?

sorry for the noob questions.
