Default Remving the Cat

anyone remove theirs? I'm thinking of getting a cat back exhaust, but someone suggested i remove/gut the cat to get better performance, milage etc. I've done this on both diesel's I've had and liked the results, but not sure if i should on this one?

Do they do inspections up there? If so, then removing or gutting the cat is not an option. This is not the issue it was 20 or even 10 years ago. Stock cats, especially those used on the Hemi are not near the restriction they were years ago, at least not when they are in proper working condition.
I've got a CAI and LT Headers and after driving it that way a couple of days, I cut and welded the stock cats back in, and really can tell no difference in the mid to high HP range and if anything the slight backpressure gave me a little more low end back.

I'd say find you the cat back with the right sound you are looking for and call it a day...

Dont even bother removing it. Honestly youll go through so much headache tearing it out and youll end up LOSING low end torque. You could try a high flow cat but if i were you i would look into some nice shorty headers and a catback. Or if you do go the high flow cat route pacesetter makes some extremely nice long tubes/ Y pipe combo.

the stock cats on the rams are already a high flow cat. no need to tuch them youwont gain much at all from gutting them or getting rid of them. i woudl however get rid of the stock y-pipe as that thing is junk.

Removing the cat will only net you 3-4hp topps. Nothing worth messing with. There's not a whole lot inside the cats these days. That stuff is expensive! There's more involved with emissions than just cats, that's why they aren't as restrictive as they used to be.

thanks all, i'll let it be. I'm by no means a tree hugger, but i'm trying to be a little more responsible than i have been for the environment.

regardless, only reason i did it on my diesels were to get the black smoke flowing more, and noticed better sound with the straight pipes, but different story on the hemi. i'll just get a catback and call it a day as suggested. i dont know anything about inspections here, but i do know British Columbia is pretty strict, and i journey through there enough.

thanks again
