Default Offroad in my 2WD Ram 1500.

Hey guys. I just got a 2006 Ram 1500 QC SLT 5.7L HEMI 2WD. I didn't want to get a 4x4 because they just burn more gas and I have no real use for one over here in North Carolina other than driving on the beach. My 2WD Ram drives fine in some sand but I haven't really tested it. It has some brand new stock Goodyear Wrangler tires. I have the 20" rims with it. I was just wondering if anyone else has a 2WD Ram and how well it drives in just some light offroading situations like on the beach or something.

Damn that sucks because I just bought the truck and the dealer put 4 brand new tires on there right before I bought it. I'd hate to switch tires when they still have the paint lines on them.

As far as the truck goes, you can offroad it just fine. But the tires are a different story..

I agree with you 100% in every circumstance but one, and it just happens to be his. The most NON-aggressive tires do the best in soft sand! Seen it time and again where the soccer mom tread all-season radials stay right up on top of the sand and keep moving right along when guys with the aggressive treads dig themselves right down into a hole...

That's pretty much what I kinda want. I like to do a lot of driving on the beach since I live on it. There's a lot of good fishing places but you kinda need a good truck with some good tires to get through the sand, mud and water. However, on the highway it is a very bumpy ride. Shakes a lot even when on smooth roads. The dealer said the tires were balanced perfectly and the alignment was fine but it's because of the 20' rims that the ride is really rough. They said getting a different/better tire would help with the rough ride.

What Hammer said makes a lot of sense.

If it was me I would try your truck out in some sand, before you decide to get new tires.
