4wd Auto - light stuck ON
My issue is somewhat similar to this.
I bought my 2007 in 2018. The 4 wheel drive did not work. When you switch it to any of the three drive modes it would flash that mode on the cluster until the light went off. It would not engage. Then one day, I really needed it to get unstuck. I tried it, on a prayer, and it worked. I continued to test it for about a week- worked every time. After that week it went back to its old ways (flashing when I switched it on, would not engage, light goes off).
I took it to the dealership to have them look at it. They came back after a few minutes and told me that someone had messed with the wiring. There are three wires that were a part of a large wiring harness that were cut and three new wires run outside the wiring conduit in their place. They did not want to touch it. So, I took it home, checked the wires front to back, and found that two had fallen onto the driveshaft and had the plastic worn off. I fixed that problem and got them off the driveshaft.
Now, when I start the truck it does its self-check. The "4x4 auto" light flashes and stays on. However, the truck isn't in 4x4 auto, as far as I can tell. Also, the 4x4 dial is set to 2wd. It still does the same thing when I try to put it in 4 wheel drive (flashing light), but now it goes back to 4x4 auto.
I think my next step is going to be to replace the 4x4 actuator on the transfer case and the front axle locker (not sure what that's called).
I'm just wondering if anyone else is experiencing anything like this.
Thoughts?
