Default 4wd Auto - light stuck ON

Interesting -

My truck seems to be stuck in 4wd Auto. I have read my manual several times, and use the search function on DT.com, but haven't seen any good answers, so I figured I throw it out to the masses. Details below:

So I had my first chance to use my 4wd today. We have a very light snow dusting here in STL/MO so on the way to the mall I figured; why not throw it in 4wd/Auto.

Everything was going great until, on the way home, I was a light (still in 4wn Auto) and I heard a sizzling noise..yup sizzling. The heater/blower shut off twice for about 1/2 a second. Then the noise went away, thought to myself - wow that was weird. Things returned to normal after that, until I went to put the truck back into 2wd. (As the snow was melting and I was getting back on the HWY.) It wouldn't go back into 2wd. I know this b/c there's a light on the dash which is normally off. I switched it back and forth several times. I Even played around with the heater/AC *****, thinking there was an electrical relay that maybe have shorted out. I also tried putting the truck in 4wd Lock, which didn't work either, the light just blinked a few times then went back to "4wd Auto".

Since the mall trip, I've taken a few other short trips, and the truck seems to still be stuck in 4wd. I don't see another lights on the dash indicating a problem, and the truck seems to drive OK.

Needless to say I'm super frustrated...the first time I actually get to try 4x4 it dosen't work...

I'll be off to the dealer Monday, which will probably result in me not having my truck for a day..etc..

I'm just praying it's not some electrical gremlin...that would SUK..

Truck Details:

08 SLT 4x4 QCSB - 4 months old - 3K.

If im not mistaken, RaiderJay and a few other had a similar problem but i believe their truck would not engage 4X4 leaving the light flashing. If its anything similar...it took awhile to correct and be prepared to have a loaner etc...Good luck man and please keep us informed.

Mine was down for a month. The actuator on the transfer case failed and fried a few other components.

How was that Magnum, I think I would be tempted to tell them to keep the truck. Wow I hope it all works out for you, Its one thing to be stuck in 2wd, But 4wd, And be forced to tear up the transfer case on the pavement.

Mine did the same thing....stuck in 4wd auto with the light on and the 4wd service light in the dash came on when I tried to switch it back. . I turned the **** to 2wd and pushed the neutral button in (located in the bottom left corner of the 4wd switch) turned the truck off then back on and after some grinding it went into 2wd. Since it was still under warranty, took it to the dealer and the transfer case was a quart low of fluid which was fooling the sensors. Hope yours will be this easy.

Finally made it to the dealer today: First "available appointment"

Dropped the truck off, and decided it was best to "wait"...knowing it was not going to end good. 2 hours later, the service manager comes in...bad news. He said it was throwing all sorft of codes and was on the verge of not running amymore.

Wow - what's the problem: Somehting about the transfer case, and power sensor. Chrysler has a bulletin out on it (NOT TSB). He had the print out...had to order two parts.

K - Where's my loaner? It's illegal for me to give you a loaner off the lot.
K - Where's my rental? We'll call enterprise - I hope it going to be a 4x4. As we got 6 inches of snow last night...

So yes I get a rental...best part. Ford 150. So I got to spend the day beating up someones else truck in the snow today.

I'm guessing it's going to be at least a few days before I even hear from them again.

I'll keep ya updated.
