Default Leveling Kit on 07 4x2, Any Problems???

Hey guys, I am helping out a buddy do some research for his new to him truck. He picked up an '07 Ram 2wd a few months back and is looking to just do a 2.5" leveling kit and throw on some 33's. He went to a shop and they told him that for the '07 and '08 trucks they changed some components on the front end, as a result anything over a 1" kit will cause havoc with his front end ball joints and what not. They said this is only with the 2wd, that the 4wd do not have this issue.

I searched on this forum and it appears that there are plenty of guys running a 2" or 2.5" leveling kit with an '07 2wd, so what is the deal. My response is that the shop just wants to sell him a $1200 spindle kit, can you help me out. What is the deal, is there an issue with this????

Thanks guys!

Hey guys, any help here? I know everyone hates repetitive questions but I searched this topic and could not find anything. I am sure some of the senior members know this, help a brother out!

The highest I have seen for 2wd is 2", and they recommend longer shocks. Check out fatbobsgarage.com and you can ask them questions. They seem to have everything you need.

give topguncustomz.com a call. they have the steel spacers which is what you would want to go with anyways ( the urethane/rubber spacers are not as easy to install as the steel spacers) i have a feeling that shop is trying to screw you. i dont see why they would change the 2wd suspension components on a 07-08 from the original style on the 06. i could be wrong though

They are just trying to sucker him into buying a full suspension kit. A 2.5" leveling kit will work just fine, all he will have to do is order extended shocks for the front end of the truck. He should also look into 35" tires, I think 33" are the same size as stock.

Thanks guys, that is the reason I posted here asking. If you go to Fat Bob's, they have a 2" poly urethane kit but it specifically says:

Note: In some instances the 2" spacer will not work on 2007-2008 Ram 1500, 1.5" spacers or new springs or new spindles are a better option for these trucks.

If you go to Top Gun, they don't offer anything larger than a 1.5" Daystar spacer. Again, this is only for the 07-08 2wd trucks, not 4wd. Just wondering what the difference is and what the potential risk is???

Do you really want to risk it? This is your front suspension we are talking about....would you like it to fail? That would not be good, I don't think.

i woudl say just leave it alone if all you can get is a 1.5 inch spacer. to get it completely noticeably level you need 2.5 inches up front ( at first its nose high but it settles)...
you can fit 33s on the truck right now without any level at all ( if that was the reason for the leveling kit) these trucks come with 33s on the optional stock 20 inch rims)
