Oil ?
Thanks for all the replys...wow. So my cap says 5w20 so the other question is should I use SYNTH? Cause the dealer said there was no difference and don't need it...true or not..?
I switched my 05 over to synthetic right after I bought it. I used Casterol Syntec, changing at 3k. After a couple of changes I went to RP and never looked back. People have told me that if your engine isn't burning or leaking oil then you can try synthetic. And I use 5w20 like the manual says to and my filter is mobil 1.
shouldn't be a problem. I go 5k on mine, I think some on here go as far as 8k. I think things like what kind of driving you do, how many miles on the engine, stuff like that determine how far you should go between changes.
6k on RP and a good quality Wix, Mobil 1 or Purolator filter. As stated my RP at 6k was tested by a neighbor from his Hemi and had better retained qualities than when he tested Mobil 1 after 3k miles...
Well I guess the next oil change I get I will have to watch and make sure they use 5w20 synth. I have heard some places try to sneak and put in bulk 10w30. And once again thanks for all the replys
Mobil-1 is $22 a gallon at walmart...about $4.50 a qt for the other two. Same with penz plat and many other base stock III "synthetics". As far as extended intervals i'd only do that with IV or V oils like RP/Amsoil...with a new filter halfway through. If you're only talking 5k though you should be fine with any decent synthetic.
Since we are the topic of oil, Is there a certain type a good type of gear oil? I was told it should be changed more often if I have been using 4 wd and I was in the snow. Also someone said I shouldn'e use 4wd if it's dry out is that true? what about if it is wet from rain?
