I was wondering if you can remove the catalytic converters be removed on my truck. It's an 06 4.7L 1500. I have a buddy thats got a Ford 1/2 ton and he could it along with other that had an 03 Hemi. Are there any computers that will let you turn the back 02's off?
Thanks Matt

you can take them out, sure. I don't know of any "canned tuners" that allow you to ditch the rear O2's yet though. You could go with sims or the nonfoulers, but the CEL isn't an issue anyway. The PCM makes no tuning adjustments for the rear O2's, just warns you when they are out of spec. Now the fronts are a different story, you get a bad signal there, the PCM can go so far as put you in limp mode.
That said, I see no reason, personally to ditch a cat, if working properly. These cats nowadays are not restrictive at all, you might see a 1-2 RWHP gain after removing them, period...

Here's a reason not to remove them, around here you get caught without emission controls (in this case the cats) and your truck goes to the impound lot. Not worth it for 1 or 2 hp.

trust me....it's loud as ****....my 04 all i have for exhaust is LT headers, and a AT3030 muffler....no cats and it sounds like your standing right next to Earnhardt when he starts his car at Daytona lol..........you can remove em and get away with not have a CEL...go to your auto parts store and buy a couple spark plug non foulers...you get 2 in each set, take one of em and drill the bottom out to 1/2" and then screw it into the other one and then screw ur O2 into that...gets it out of the exhaust but still gets hot and reads just enough to make PCM think ur running ok

I am not really looking for hp gains just love the sound of no cats. I had a 94 5.2L no cats, and have now a 03 Mustang GT (wifes) and 2000 Cummins with just straight 5" exhaust on it. All have no cats, the diesel didn't come with one from factory. I haven't had any trouble as far as "law" where I live, but its WV.
