How good is the stock stereo???

I added Boston Acoustics SR-95(?) 6x9 to the doors and this really made an improvement. Next step is the Boss Audio Bass1200 under the passenger seat.
The kid at the local Bestbuy is telling me that I need to add a $100 PAC module in order to go to an aftermarket deck. Do you guys know if this is the case?
