Shorties, which will replace your stock manifolds won't do a whole lot for ya. Long tubes are very beneficial but require a new y-pipe.

this may be an ignorant question, and im sure hammer is going to nail me on this, but why are the long tubes better for the 4.7.'s than the shorties?

keep in mind, i dont know much about headers....

well since i'm too lazy to type up the difference, i grabbed this real quick from a site:

"The difference between short tube headers and long tube headers is where the power is shifted in the power band. In terms of short tube headers you will see more peak horsepower, this is better for 5 speed vehicles that have low end traction issues such as wheel spin and wheel hop. The long tube headers make more overall torque but tend to shift the power gains down towards the bottom of the power band. The long tubes are more optimal for automatic cars since they tend to lag down low in the power while the torque converter is engaging. "

Thanks hemi....

does that have to do with back pressure and the instant exhaust release of the shorties?

or am i in left field?

Hemiyellow, that has to be the worst explanation of headers I have ever heard! I know you didn't write it, just saying! Never are shorties more beneficial than LT's. NEVER! LT's can scavenge the air much better than shorties and keeps the ports on the heads much cooler increasing flow and lowering back pressure. I won't go into depth here because it's all over the web, but LT's increase overall power. Shorties are top end power and do so little at that. Like a few hp. Nothing worth bragging about.

LT's are better on every car compared to shorties. You will need a new Y-pipe to go from the headers to the catback. I seen a kit on Ebay that came with everything neede, but it was for the 5.7L. I'm sure you can find something to keep your current catback.

In the short LT's will produce 15-25hp & 10-30ft/lbs
Shorties will produce 2-10hp & 5-10ft/lbs

the reason most go with shorties is because of the bolt up and go factor. and they are a improvement over stock manifolds. not a whole lot better, but they are better. and price too. no exhaust changes and such.

the easier install is why i have edel ceramic shorties in the garage to be installed.

First off, how the hell did I get such a reputation for being a hard a$$?

Second, go here and read a little write up I did in the FAQ, section on headers.

https://dodgeforum.com/forum/3rd-gen...5-headers.html

Third, jump on my explanation of headers, 'dog, go ahead, I ain't banned nobody yet today!!!
