Now I will admit I am new to the mod game. Correct me if I am wrong, intakes just look like basic tubing and an air filter. So what really is the difference between the intakes that cost 400 bucks and this one?

thickness/durability of the metal, quality of the couplings. Placement of the filter. all CAI run within the a simliar CFM from what i have found withing 100-200 CFM. buy the looks of that intake the angle and placement of the first rubber joint is weak and almost at 90 degrees. not as efficiant as many others. The filter is also very small compared to most other systems for our trucks and it has no heat shield. So cold air intake it really is not....more like hot air intake with a crappy design small filter thin tubing. get what you pay for

also the that filter location is prone to sucking up water and hydrolocking your motor

I used one at first but then modified it using PVC .....I replaced the filter with a real K&N and put it a little farther down behind the headlight where the jet stream scoop fed air directly to it. I love it. And it didn't cost an arm and a leg...

Check out the pics:
