Default Avoiding the Dealer

Got an 07 ST Quad Cab, want to swap out the steering wheel for one with radio controls and put in some OEM fog lights. Everything I see tells me I have to take it to the dealer to have them programmed in. How much does that cost, and is there anyway around it?

You can install the lights yourself, but I don't think there's any way around going to the dealer unless you know someone that does service for the dealer. They need to turn the options on in the computer, which requires a StarScan tool. Only Dodge dealers have those. They will probably charge you an hour's worth of labor, so that depends on the rates for your area - anywhere from $60 on up past $100.

I don't know about the steering wheel. I assume it's the same way, although more difficult than the lights. Make sure you disconnect the battery and let the system bleed off excess power before attempting anything with the steering wheel because of the airbag.

I have heard that if your truck doesn't have steering wheel controls, then the column is not wired for them and it will not work. I can not verify this though. I would like them myself. My Caliber and 07 Grand Caravan have them.
