Talking New Ram Owner

Just wanted to say hey, Just picked up my 02 ram 1500 5.9L yesterday with 67,000 miles. Love the truck so far. I sold my honda s2000 to buy this truck. Gas mileage is going to kinda suck, but i didnt get this for the gas mileage. Got the windows all tinted right after i picked her up. Will post pics once i can get some. What are the best mods to begin with?

Welcome! I myself came from a small convertible sports car (BMW Z3 Roadster) to a Ram. I love it! More power, better visibility, hell of a lot more "trunk space" too.

You sold a S2000 for an 02? HUH! I like sports cars so Im a little biased. Good luck with the truck and I hope it provides you with many years of satisfaction and fun. Welcome to the forum.

Maybe start with the basics. CAI, tuner, exhuast. Then when you get some money headers, cams, suspension, not all in that order but you get the gist.

Make sure all the stuff was done ie. fluids changed, transmission, differentials, oil, change the plugs and wires etc etc. Nothing breaks faster then something that wasnt serviced...

Check out the 3rd Gen FAQ section, it has a lot of good info for the most common "bolt on" mods. https://dodgeforum.com/forum/3rd-gen-ram-faqs-133/

Welcome to DF!

As far as bolt on mods go, the first mod I would go with is a Fastman TB. Then do an intake, headers, exhaust, programmer. That should give you a good start. Also maybe some 1.7 RR's if you count that as a bolt on. Welcome to the forum.

Welcome to DF. I too have an 02 5.9 and I love it. I would say get the basics CAI,Fastman TB, 180 t-stat and aftermarket exhaust for starters.

Like "Ilovemytruck" said make sure fluids changed, transmission, differentials, oil, change the plugs and wires.

Is yours 4x4?

johnny.

The number one thing that you need to remember, before doing a single mod, is get a new job. One with a few more zeroes in it than your current one. After a few of those, come back to us, and we'll help you spend that money.
The basics are CAI, exhaust, programmer.

cold air intake, exhaust, chip, headers, rims, grill, lift or drop kit, sound system, etc.
it really depends on what you are going for - off road or street truck

I have the same engine. Can't wait to see your pics i gotta up some soon. I'd start with a exhaust and if your wanting it loud and getting a huge hp gain cut your resonators then add a exhaust kit. 5.9 is so restricted.

Here are a few pics as i bought her. Got 17% tint on side windows to match factory rears and 35% on the whole front windsheild. Plan on tinting my taillights and 3rd break light, but not too dark thou. Also i think i already have some exhaust or something, it seems quite louder than stock would be. I also am going to order HIDS this week. whats Air intake would you guys recommend? any other mods that help with mpg's at all? thanks
