Talking Most out of my Ram

I bought an 08 Dodge Ram 1500 new from the factory. I bought the 4.7L V8 because I wanted the standard transmission. I love the truck it has power plus (I've already pulled out a Dodge 1 ton hooked to a horse trailer from a snowy ditch), and the standard 6 speed is a really fun drive. I want to pick everyones brain. When I really root on my truck it feels starved for air, and I want to fix that with cold air, I've been looking at a few air systems, the AEM Brute force, and the Air Raid systems. I also am thinking about a throttle body spacer, and eventually dual exhaust. I am new to the 3rd gen dodges and now turn to you guys "the gurus" for help. What products do you recomend so that I am going to be putting even more horsepower and torque and better performance to the ground? I really like beating HEMI's, I'm 2 for 2 to date, and a chipped Ford Diesel. Thanks everyone.

ski pthe throttle body spacer, big waste of money.

either intake is fine as long as it's an actual CAI. get something with a heat shield around it. go to AIRRAM.com, he's got a good bit of stuff for the 4.7.

I've got the Airaid intake and I really like it. After that, there are tons of things you can do for your truck. What are looking to spend and how deep are you willing to go into you engine? I.E. bolts ons only or internals?

Also, check the applications for parts....there are a lot of parts for the early 4.7s up to 2007. Because the 2008 4.7 is new, some items are not made for it. There have been several sites that say that this part is for 4.7 2002-2008, but I would hesitate on some because of the differences in the engines. Things like computer reprogrammers, etc, i would contact the manufacturer first...

I have a CAI with a K&N filter, along with a Magnaflow Y-pipe and Thrush two-chamber muffler. It breathes well and sounds mean. AIRRAM.com has lots of 4.7 goodies, and he is pretty knowledgable. I would start there.

BTW, what rear-end gears do you have with the 6-speed?

Default Thanks guys

To answer a few of your questions, I have the 3.92 gears with the dodge anti-spin rear differential, she'll lay two nice blackies no problem.

As to answer my question as to how far I want to go, I eventually want to put 35's or even 38's if I have the power on the truck, if that means going internal then that's what i will do. I bet internal stuff is much more effective than just simple bolt ons.

Thank you guys for all your input, I am even more excited for my truck, this thing is so much fun!

I want to jack it up for 35's even 38's if i can get the power. I've even joked about super charging it. I plan on keeping it for a while so it'll be a project for quite some time.

How do you like the lights behind the grill, I have solid inserts in it now for the winter, but we have a big deer problem on our roads up here, there almost can never be enough lights lol.

*Edit, Sorry didn't fully read. Although it still kinda surprises you beat hemis with a stock 4.7, The must not have known how to drive em. If your ever in my area I would love to give it a go. Of course by that time I will probably pretty modded myself. I read somewhere that if you reduce your tire size, Its the equivlent of increasing gears. So 31" tire on a 3.92 gear is the equivlent of a 4.56 on a 33" tire. Don't know if its true, Maybe I should put a 16" wheel with 20" tires...

As far as increasing tire size, I have been debating what the best size really is, 35 or larger seem like maybe they would be tough on our ball joints and the rest of the driveline. Personally I think I am gonna keep with about a 33" tire, it seems the best compromise with everything.

I did the lights behind the grill about the same time I did my CAI, They work very well, You can't even tell that they are behind the grill, My next move will be to put HID's in all the lights.

The TB spacer is junk, If your gonna do something with the TB, Get it ported, Its fairly inexpensive and I understand it does make a bit of a change, Especially with a ECU Tune.
