Will these fit? (another audio ?)
another thought i had was just to get some 6x9s speaker boxes and mount them somewhere in the truck and leave the door speakers alone or would i get better sound from them?
i never said 3 1/16th was the stock size. but i think the 3 1/4 would fit. the stock spoeakers have a adapter/spacer to mount speakers in the door. its juts about 1/4 inch maybe a little less. with my alpines mounted onto that adapter they are under 3 inchs in depth. youll get better sound with the 6x9s mounted in the doors. i would just go to your local best buy to get the speakers that way if they dont fit you can bring them back. prices are just about the same. you do not need an amp to power them it just sounds better. my alpines will do better with a small amp and even better with a better head unit. even some 6x9s and 5 1/4s you get from walmart are nice. pioners if you get the good ones are very nice speakers. switching out the stock speakers is just about the easiest thing to do on the inside of your truck. door panels come off very easy. only thing you have to do is cut the plugs that go to the stock speakers and either solder or put the butt plugs ( i think thats what they are called) to hook the wire up to the new speakers. easily a 1 hour job to do front/backs
Just replace the door speakers like Nick said, don't mess with putting them in a box. I recommend the rockford 6x9's from crutchfield b/c they are a good price with everything you need for the install, including directions on how to get everything apart. I got them and the only reason I had any trouble was b/c I had tossed the original spacer when I replaced the factory speakers with an old set of rockford's I had from my old car.
ok, i do like the rockford fosgate speakers but am just wondering if the kickers are nicer.
also, should i bother with replace my back 5-1/4s? i plan on getting a sub back there and wonder if it would be worth the price.

I replaced my 5 1/4's and when I was waiting for my new 6x9's they gave me plenty of sound. I haven't put a sub in b/c I need all the space I have back there so I can't give you advice on how it would affect the 5 1/4's. I don't think you will need the kicker's for the extra 25 watts they can handle unless you plan on creating a pretty serious system with every speaker amplified.

actually getting plates and fitting up 6.5"s is a good idea.. round speakers have better sound quality... i'm actually on my way out the door to work but while i'm there i'll get part numbers for plates and when i get back approx 530 eastern time i'll post up reasons why.. and the kicker ks 6x9 are going to be better than the rockfords.. i love fosgate subs and amps but their speakers are not very good. and they ks 6x9s will fit crutchfield is just worried about depth with the kickers.. i've put those speakers in these trucks before.. and might do a set in mine if i don't go 6.5's.
Component sets where the tweeter is not attached does have better control of the bass, however the smaller the woofer, the less output of bass..generally speaking assuming identical properties.
I went with exactly was recommended. The front speakers came very close to the door glass. I put the glass down before I put the speaker in the hole!!! The back is a 6.5". Even what they recommended for that, there was fitment issue.
The easiest thing for these trucks as far as audio goes, retain as much stock as possible. The wiring can't even be pushed through the door jamb boot because Chrysler decided to make connectors for easy removal of the doors.
One big question to the OP, do you have base or infinity audio?
the loss of bass from a 6x9 to a 6.5" isn't that much and you get much much better mids and highs out of it. think of it this way. the cone on a oval speaker is equal thickness 100% of the way around. on one side it is three inches longer.. think of a tape measure when you stretch it out way far. it gets weaker as it gets longer so to speak. this is exaclty what happens with oval speakers. the cone sections on the longer side flex differently than the short side and you get distortion.
you don't need a four channel amp to get better sound using an aftermarket deck is substantial. adding a four channel does give you more volume and better sound quality and many high end speakers don't really get to really show their stuff until getting run by a good amp.
now i'm not saying you should get the kciker ss speakers. those are competition quality speakers that are meant to be driven by a high power 4 channel amplifier. they are bad *** speakers but if you only run them on a stock head unit you won't get **** out of them

these are plates that will give you teh ability to mount a 6.5" in the same location as the factory 6x9"s and that's bolt in.
do stay away from the rockford speakers.. their full range stuff sucks ***** very cheap and doesn't sound worth a damn. now fosgate amps and subs.. that's some sexy stuff but speakers are a no go. kicker speakers are the way to go or Polk are another one of my favorites. JL is up there, Boston acoustics, Eclipse. all good speakers.
Up to you you will get good sound out of those kicker ks 6x9's but a 6.5" will sound better and especially if you amp them down the road. the kicker 6x9s should you go that route will fit in the door just fine.
You could replace the rear 5.25's that's up to you the rear is realy just filler the main thing you want is good sound staging and for mids and highs that comes up front. you don't want to put 6x9's in boxes and put them somewhere else... would be entirely retarded. with a good set of speakers up front and factories in back or a decent coax speaker will be just fine.
now i do recommend you get a new head unit. factory deck doesn't have too much power or tuning options for that matter and most of the power it puts out isn't a very clean signal at all and distortion kills speakers. really arn't going to be doing much with factory deck. I usually recommend go deck first then speakers or both at the same time not just speakers. because people just unknowingly crank up the volume on the stock deck and before they can get a new deck they have fragged their aftermarket stuff.
and when looking at speakers don't pay attention to wattage ratings really. if you arn't running an external amp you arn't getting anywhere close to the rms ratings for even the cheapest speakers. a good head unit puts out 17-25 watts rms. most speakers are rated for 45 or more. As long as you feed a speaker good clean power that isn't distorted and you have things set up properly I have set up things in customer vehicles that ran 2-3 times the RMS rating for a speaker or subwoofer with no problems. my buddy runs a 10 inch mtx 5500 in a ported box approx tuning of 35hz and an mtx ta5601 amp that bench tests at 800 watts rms at 2 ohms. the 5500 is a 300 rms sub.. yea that set up has been banging now for eight months and sounds as good as ever.. and loud as hell too. you want to really just listen to the speakers. specs don't really tell you a whole lot. for subs the thiele small parameters help tell you what type of enclosure to build but for speakers mostly it's going to be just listening to the speakers and take a look at what they are made of and how they look, what's the cone made of, rubber surround? foam, is everything soldered for the leads or is some of it glued, is the cone stitched on or just glued. read lots of reviews as well. it's all in the ear though. I've worked with kicker a lot and love their speakers. their lower end subs, comps, compvrs arn't so nice. I'm a big fan of CVX's rock them in a sealed box and just throw tons of juice to em.... salivates.....

alright, i really dont need much bass coming from my speakers because im going to get subs for the real bass. i just need my speakers to do everything else.
what do you think about this deal
used 1650 watt VA Audio amp and a 12 inch Memphis PR dual voice coil in a ported box
the guy bought it about 7 months ago and took it out of the truck about 4 months
i can get it for $200 with all the wirng and he even said he will install it for me. he also said he paid $500 new for everything.
what do you recommend for my door speakers and head unit. i dont plan on doing anything with my rear 5-1/4s.
