the oil change lights are just on a time/engine use basis the computer factors in a whole bunch of stuff into it. it does not actively sample the engine oil and determine oil life or oil level or anything. mine comes on like every 8k miles and i just turn it off. i change my oil every 3k i don't need a light to tell me i just disregard it and reset it when i get home.

So, the dealer didn't do the last oil change completely/properly.

That's odd, I do mostly highway driving (at least 70%) and mine comes on every 2500 miles to let me know that 3K miles is coming. It should go every 6K like the owners manual says.
Mine came on @ 2500 miles, 5500 miles and 8500 miles. It was reset at the first 2 oil changes, I haven't done the 3rd yet. Probably tomorrow after work since it is at 9100 miles now.
Mine appears to just go by the 3000 mile plan, not actual drive time and engine load like I thought it would. I'm gonna change it every 3K anyway to keep the warranty valid.

I know the 08 models have that....just follow the instructions in the manual...super easy. Why go back to the dealer and wait around for literally a 10-second fix?

not really.. sometimes it's tricky to reset the oil change on these since unless the light is on on the dash there's no way to tell if the three pedal pump did the trick..

to reset it you turn the key on and let the truck go through all that don't start tho. then you pump the pedal down three times. if the light goes out it works... not really a way to know if it did reset if there's no light on on the dash. it took me liek three times to reset mine the first time till i figured out exaclty how long to take in pressing the pedal down.. I would just go out to your truck and reset it and call it a day... if you go back to the dealer and raise a fit about this i wouldn't ever take ur truck back... just like reaming out a waitress before you get ur food.. bad idea. especially over something so trivial. if it was a check engine light or something i'd be worried. but when you've got all of us telling you it's just an idiot light to make sure stupid people don't forget to change their oil.. since some people are that stupid.

o and mine came on at like 4500 miles and i reset it.. hasn't come on again yet... 11k miles now lol. if i hit 12k without it going on i'm gonna have the dealer look at it.

Option 1: 1minute or less to look it up in owner's manual + 10seconds to do it= 1min 10 sec

Option 2: How every long it takes you to get to your dealer + 10 minutes to explain to them what the problem is + 30 minutes in line + the trip home= a waste of time

Option 1: I knew roughly how to do it, and looked it up in the manual to be sure.
Option 2: I had to do some running around this morning anyway and was in/out of the dealer in less than 5 minutes. Probably close to 3 minutes.

I was more curious as to what the dealer's response was for not clearing the message. In short, each model/year/options may/not have the display and since it wasn't on when I got the oil change it wasn't reset.
