Unhappy HELP: 02 1500 4x4,4.7L Any thoughts on my issues?

Hey Everybody,
Long time lurker, but relatively new to the forum.
I got rid of my 4.3 Silverado for my Ram!

Anyhow, I picked up a 02 1500 Quad Cab 4x4 with 168k miles.
Runs great, and has been kept up.

It now has 178k miles, and I've been noticing a few weird issues.
And I hope you guys can give me any pointers/Direction based on your experiences.

1) Coolant disappears about every 500 miles, goes down a couple of notches and I have to add about 16oz of water every other week.
Temp is a tad below 1/2 way mark at all times.
- No milky Oil
- No oily coolant
Slightly smokes at start-up "white smoke" for a few secs, then disappears when warm.
I'm suspecting it can be the INTAKE manifold Gasket, as my 01 4.3 Silverado was doing the same but at 140k miles.

2) The truck likes to die, every blue moon.
Meaning, The RPM's dip to sub 500 for a sec then Dies.
- Started happening, when I drop it into reverse and tap the gas to get moving (Instant hop to about 1k RPMS then drops to 400; dies.)
- Also does it when I tap the gas when in Drive, i.e. pulling into a parking spot.
I've cleaned out the Throttle body, and I suspect that it's the TPS sensor. (I searched here to bring me to that Assumption)

Does any of these issues sound right?

No CEL on, so I'm guessing its not triggering a code in the PCM

ANY input would be helpful.

Thanks Guys!
Here's a pic of her.

Welcome. Check your plugs, Probably a leaky headgasket. If the headgasket is going bad or is bad it can drag the Catalytic converter with it and that can cause your stalling issues. Just a wild guess though, Im sure someone smarter than I will chime in soon.

Lightbulb Stalling

I've had a similar problem with my '04. Mine would stall at idle or low rpm movement only for the first 20-30 miles after a fill-up. It would always start right back up and was only mildly inconvenient. The bigger problem was that there was something wrong with my truck and I didn't know what it was. I researched the problem on the internet and the best answer I could find was the EGR valve needing replacement. Last week, the check engine light came on and the code was for a bad EGR valve. I replaced it on Friday and filled my tank. So far, this has solved my stalling problem. The EGR valve is very easy to replace and under $100. You may have a different problem, but I hope my experience is helpful.

Thanks for the input guys!

At this mileage I think I'm going to replace the tps, intake gasket, and egr.

But whats weird is the truck isnt throwing any codes.

I love it though, way better truck than my 01 Silverado.

Anyone else with any ideas!?

thanks again!

Good to know I'm not the only one with a hi-mileage 4.7L Quad Cab

Actually, your assessments sound spot on to me. Without a doubt, first place I'd look at your first issue is the intake gasket, then head gasket.

With the second, sounds like classic TPS issue...
