Default Resonator exit

I see my Ram has 3" exhaust and it's in good condition, it seems like a shame to cut it off. Has anyone tried removing the resonator at the back? thanks

When I had my exhaust done, the guy that owned the shop said he has done it, but it sounds better if you just put a good 3" in/3" out muffler in place of the stocker. That's what I had him do to mine, and I have no regrets.

He showed me the exhaust while my truck was up on the rack. It's 3" all the way back from the Y-pipe, with the exception of the inlet on the stock muffler, which is 2 1/2".

If you just pull off the resonator, you'll still need to make up the length difference, and will probably get only a minor sound difference, and just about no performance/efficiency gain.

If you get a good 3" in/3" out muffler to replace the stocker, and just have them cut off the last 3" or so from the pipe leading into the muffler, you'll have a complete 3" system, better sound, and a minor gain in power/efficiency.

Just my $0.02

I replaced my Y pipe but kept the stock 3" pipe. I also replaced the muffler with a 3" inlet and outlet. Kept the over the axle pipe as well, and put a chrome tip on the end. Works well, and save some money....
