Default Air lift kit???

Does anyone know if a kit for a 2500 will work for a 1500? I'm looking at this, but it doesn't list anything for the 1500
http://www.jegs.com/p/Air+Lift/745922/10002/-1

I want an airbag that rests on the axle housing and not on the spring. Those are crooked and look cheesmo.

They are listed by Air Lift as for 3/4 and 1 ton trucks. But do you really need a bag that is rated to support 5000# in the bed or tongue weight?

I've got the model just below it, the Ride Control, same setup, but a 2000# load and/or combined tongue weight capacity. I've not had more than about twelve hundred pounds in my bed, but I've pulled a 7000# trailer and never needed more than 40% air capacity to handle/level it perfectly.
I'd bet you'd never be able to exceed the Ride Control kit...

I just ordered a ride rite 2286 kit. Quick question, are you suppose to fill up the bags before hooking up the trailer? Or once the trailer is hooked and the truck is sagging, do you then fill it till level?

I don't think it much matters. I prefill mine when I'm loading the ATV in the bed, because I know just how much to put in, and because the valve is at the rear bumper, it's harder to get to with the tailgate down.
Watch those bags real close, I was dead set on getting the Firestones, but my buddy who has a tire/auto repair store that orders my stuff wholesale advised against them and told me to get the Air Lifts (I had only heard of the Firestone's previously). He told me that people were having to replace the bags after only about two years because of dry rot. I'd hate to have a bag blow at some point while trailering!
Because of his advise, I had him order me the Air Lifts. 4 years and counting they still look/perform as new...

Ok, thanks. Damn typical Firestone problems with the blow outs huh? I guess I will try my luck, it's too late as I already ordered them.

Well I know quite a few with the Firestone's across the forums and most swear by them. I think I read a post where one guy had a bag go and another where the U-bolt broke and that's about all I can recall. I don't think you'd have an issue, they sell a lot of 'em. But I had no reason to doubt this guy, I've hunted/ATV'd with his son for years. It's actually the shop where the guy let me and his kid (I say kid, he's 26 years old) install my lift kit. I just figured he'd know what he was talking about.
I'd just maybe make a good visual inspection before I hooked up and towed every time. Make it a routine. Hell, even though I have the Air Lifts that supposedly don't have the issue, I should make it part of my routine myself...

It's because of the Firestone reason I want to go heavier than needed. I have put too much weight in the bed before, but only because I didn't have a trailer at that time. Most of the weight goes in the trailer. However, while lying in bed last night, I think I may just go with the cheesmo look only because when the bags are mounted to the leaf spring...It allows you to lift your truck with no modifications needed to the airbags!
I think I will be putting some lift on the truck soon and want to extra hassles. I would do add-a-leafs, but I don't want my truck to drive terrible and bounce sideways around every bumpy turn. The bags should give an easier ride when not filled since your utilizing the factory suspension ans probably stiff as hell when filled.

My bags pre-dated my lift 'dog, was not an issue since the bracket goes above the leafs and the lift blocks go below. I had the same concern but in talking to where I got the lift kit from they assured me it would be a none issue.
I'm looking at going to a 3" body lift fairly soon and again, no problem. I picked the brain of the guys at the local 4x4 shop, who looked at it (I feel bad, cause I'm doing the lift myself, but I've recommended them for a couple gear swaps, so I guess my conscience can be clear). The bag bracket goes to the frame, I'm sure you've seen a pic of mine by now, I welded it, but they come with bolts to drill and put in. The poly blocks go over the frame and under the bed, so again, no issue with the bags. You won't have a problem...

No drilling and bolting for me either. I'll weld it on. I'll just cut and grind down if I change out or remove them! They are cheap enough to dispose of when the time comes especially if you've got your use from them.

I haven't seen any of your pics with the airbag helpers? Got any on hand?
