Wheel Bearings
Anything I should know before I attempt to replace them? We think the popping sound from my truck is a wheel bearing since nothing else seems to be wrong or loose.
i think it was 06 that had the recall not 100% sure tho, i just did my front two and if there anything like mine be ready for alot of patients took like 45min just to get them off becuase they were rusted on, and the bolts werent the easiest to get to
Its not to hard if you decent mechanic skills..
Its been awhile, since i did my passenger but something like this:
Jack up truck (I used a floor jack in the center crossmember for the IFS)
Remove Wheel,
Remove brake line holder, Remove Brake Caliper, and wire out of way(With bailing wire or simler)
Remove Nut on axle shaft cant remember the Socket Size
Seperate the upper Ball Joint, from the spindle,
I removed the Strut, dont need to, but to me it made it easier.
I also seperated the steering Tie rod ball joint from the spindle.
i just pulled the half shaft out of the back of the hub, i didnt remove it from the axle housing.
then unbolted the the 3 bolts on the back of the wheel bearing, I believe they were 17mm
Put new one in, making sure to include the Dust cover..
then put back together in opposite order. ** Oh and Make Sure you pay attention to the dust cover when you take it off **
Here are the Actual Pages from the Manual..

Oh and I also Have a Passenger Side OEM Mopar Hub Bearing New in opened Box.
Never mounted, bought 2 off ebay not knowing one needs a wire for the Speed Sensor, and 1 doesnt, this one does not have the wire for the Speed Sensor.
$90 Shipped obo.. Paid 210 + shipping when i bought them. Have pics

i just had both of mine replaced under warrenty. the drivers side was making a horrible grinding sound when it was replaced. it started with a sound that greatly like a stone in the brake shield and gets progressively worse. they then had me go back a day later and replaced the passenger side.
i was able to go to a website, type in VIN and it told of any recalls for my year and if my RAM was included in the recall. dont recall the website though.

I just did my passenger's side. I have an '03 4x4, and it's never been out. I used an air chisel to get the old bearing out of the recess. Made the job a hell of alot easier! If they've been in a long time, you'll have a b*tch getting the old ones out. Clean the recess afterward with some penetrating oil and Scotchbrite. Then wipe out the penetrating oil with a rag. This will make installing the new one way quicker...JMHO
i just did mine when i put my 3 inch lift on. it not ness to remove the spindles. just jack up one side at a time. take the wheel and brakes off. turn the wheel either direction and use a breaker bar or air wrench to undo the bolts easiest to access, then turn the wheel the other way for the other/s(ohh yeah give a wd40 bath 1st). pull the old wheel bearing off, put new one in place hand tighten the bolts on. once the bolts are all on torque to spec, put brakes back on and tada your done.
