Yeah i guess it wouldnt hurt to try. Im keeping my old tires anyways. if it realy sucks i could just take the 35's off and wait until i can afford to re-gear my truck.

the tranny may go out surprisingly fast, it will end up being the weak link and taking all the abuse. the truck will physically be able to move though.

If you've only got a 2wd, gears aren't going to be $1000... You're only getting half the labor done that us 4x4 guys have to do.

A set of 4.56 or 4.88 gears plus the full install kit should run around HALF that.

Good, sound advice. I'm guessing that you'll send him the $2500 for a tranny rebuild when he needs it too, right?

gotta remember im in canada though so the gears and install kit are gonna cost me like 500$ and then probably a few hundred more for labour. so maybe not 1000$ but 700$ wouldnt suprise me.

$700-$800 US per axle to re-gear is the normal going rate, thats not too bad at all. to regear a 4x4, its about $1700 from what i understand...

Is it really hard to do the work yourself, say even if you have a mechanic around telling you what to do. Cus Well there is a place up here where you can rent the shop for 15$ an hour and have access to all the tolls and theres mechanics around to help you. I firgure that could make the labour really cheap or is it far to hard of a job.

well just called national 4wd and they quoted me about 800-1200 for the job which is right around what i expected. So looks like i'll be waiting a few more moths for my tires since i'll probably be spending my tire money on my gears lol. And girls think guys dont have to deal with the pain of labour, 800$ for labour hurting me pretty bad lol.

No dice, special tools and a complete knowledge of how to shim and work with a crush collar! I have done everything on my truck myself, lift and all, and intend to try to tackle a cam swap. But I didn't do my gears, nor would I attempt it.
Don't even pick a regular engine mechanic for this. This is a job for a mechanic with specific experience working with axles and differentials. DO NOT cost yourself thousands of $ just to save a couple hundred now!!!

Yeah i was talking to a friend on mine whos a mechanic and he said no way. So national 4wd will be doing it. Im sure they can manage there the biggest off-road shop in calgary, if not in canada. Probably get them to throw on my leveling kit too.
