diablosport blowin trannies, what's the deal?
i read on the forums that the diablosport tuner caused a few trannies to blow in trucks. What's the deal, is the diablosport a piece of crap or what. I have an 07 ram with the ds 91 tune installed with mds delete and haven't had a problem in the 3-4k miles i've had it in. Is it the actual tuner causing these problems, or is it user error and people messing with parameters they have no idea what they do. Just tryin to follow up bc if it is the tuner i think i will yank the tune off my truck until it gets figured out
Nobody on this site is having the issue, at least not to my knowledge, which is weird, because it's a hot topic on 3 other Dodge Truck related forums I'm on.
It doesn't seem that widespread, maybe about 20 guys in all reported they lost their trannies with a Diablo tuner. Out of a couple thousand sold so far, I'd not be too hasty to yank it off there just yet, especially if you are having NO issues after a couple thousand miles.
It might make me consider not buying one if I was in the market, but it's not a panic yet, by any means...

true, just got me a little nervous. Checked on the forums today and read a few guys blew their trannies right after installing it. I have not had any problems so far and the truck runs great, but i don't want to be worrying all the time if the ds will eventually toast my tranny. I don't even understand how a tuner could do that, u can't even adjust any parameters of the transmission, just doesn't make sense to me
No one is really 100% sure what the problem is yet. I know that answer kind of stinks but it is the truth. There are a lot of stories out there and the common thread between them all seems to be the DSP but no one knows for sure if it is the reason for the blown trannies. Guys with the problems seem to think that the tuner is the problem but there are a lot of other factors involved. If the tuner is working for you I would stick with it. There have only been a handful of problems reported so I don't think it is time to panic just yet.

I havent had any problems with mine on the 91 tune. All I did was plug in, set it to the 91 and unplugged it, I did not mess with any parameters. Also my driving habits have stayed the same, I bought this tuner to give me a little more grunt for pulling my trailers.
I'm sure the problems are coming from people messing with things like shift points, and rev limits, and probably running the **** out of the trucks, racing, etc...
It's my experience if you drive a stock truck like a 16 year old late for prom, you're eventually going to ruin parts, and a performance tuner can speed that process up dramatically.
It could also be that these 20 or so people's tranny's were on their way out anyway, 20 out of the probably thousands of these units sold is not a big deal to me, shoot I know of 2 or three people here with STOCK trucks who have ruined trannys, and then tell me "oh that dodge is gonna give you transmission problems". Not true, trucks of every brand blow transmissions, and I'm pretty sure people have cooked them with every brand of tuner under the sun. It's just easy to blame it on the tuner...

I think the main problem is that in order to HIGHLY modify your vehicle, you will need a tuner that is capable of doing custom tuning software. When you get into custom tuning and power adders and high stall converters, the trans may be a weak component?
I think they guys that are mostly stock or lightly modified will have no issue's for the most part as long as they don't mess with a tune that has been dyno proven. Seat of the pants don't mean squat unless you can log it.
Anyways, most of the tuners on the market are a canned tune hand held operation. Only SCT, Diablo are customized for the Dodge's that I know of??
Sniper makes some customizable Ford software programs, but I don't know if they support Dodge's programming?

I'm running the 91 tune on mine and haven't had any problem YET!!! I have the exact settings as you have with the MDS off and she perrrs like a kitten. I'm thinking of putting the stock tune back one and riding out the storm till they figure out what the problem is.
