Newb question 4.7 vs. 5.7
Well, I was unimpressed with the Cummins, it rode rough, and didn't seem to have quite as much umph as another un-named deisel I used to drive had, maybe it was that specific one, but it only had 55K miles. I have a friend that is getting a '07 Quad Cab, Big Horn, Hemi, Auto with 37k miles on the ticker from the auction for me tomorrow. Supposed to be spotless......stay tuned.
Now, who can tell me some gas saving tips for a Hemi....other than the obvious, stay out of the pedal? Headers, K&N, exhaust, additives?

I think a MDS Hemi is the perfect solution for you. get yourself a programmer, it's the best mod you can make to improve your highway mpg. you will NEVER make your money back on a regear if you do it for mpg.
The newer trucks (07+) all seem to have more of the "naggy" type problems. I can't remember the 04/05 trucks having near as many posts back when they came out about electrical problems, and you NEVER heard of the torsion bar fronts having the Death Wobble or vibration issues that many, many complain about with the newer coil over front ends.
I think it's a classic case of cutting costs showing up in the end product. That said, I see the same complaints on the GM/Ford and even 'Yota sides too...
The transmission has ALWAYS been Dodge's Achillies Heel. IMO dating way back to the mid 60's, they have had the strongest, most bullet-proof engines on the market, coupled with the worst automatic transmissions! The 545rfe is a huge improvement durability-wise over the 45rfe, but IMO it's still the Achillies Heel of the truck.

The reason I am asking all of these questions, is I want to know that this truck will last as long, and with as little of problems that I have had with my Z71. I bought a 2000 Z71 in 2000, with 11k miles. I now have 280,000 miles, and have only replaced brakes, alternator, and fuel pump. I change my oil every 4k miles and keep up with all other maintenance. Can I expect the same out of the Dodge?
After reading some of these threads, you guys have got me a little worried..... '07's have leaky shocks, leaky axle seals, axle's coming out of differential....am I better off to get one with under 36k so the factory warranty is still effective?
You are going to need the power.
Thanks for the quick responses. I've just been trying to justify the $2k-$3k difference between the two. But deep down, I know I want a Hemi. I'm looking forward to being a regular on here soon.
BTW, what kind of MPG can I expect? I'll be doing tons of Highway miles. Probably around 3-4k miles a month.
