Default Passenger airbag on/off switch?

Just wondering -

I had an 07 Regular cab ST with a passenger airbag on/off switch. That truck got destroyed, and now I have an 08 regular cab SLT without a passenger airbag on/off switch.

I was under the impression that two-seater vehicles have these switches so as to allow transportation of a small child or baby in the passenger seat. Any thoughts as to why my 07 would have it and my 08 would not?

Does it have sensors that automatically turn the airbag on and off? I know some other makes of vehicles have that.
