Default Mine Broke

O.K., so I got the recall last week (6 days ago) - and today the joint holding the pitman rod and drag link broke. I was only pulling out of my driveway, so no injury; but it happened as I turned the wheel the full direction to the left. As with all metal, stress amounts over time. Of course, after the break I could not steer.

Either way, if you get this safety recall, the next time you start your truck you should be headed to the dealership.

Is it too late to have this checked out by the dealership my pops got his truck from . . .? It's because my dads truck is an 08 3500 6.7L CTD . . . and he's out over-seas until June 2010 . . . and I have to look out for his baby seeing as my Moms over-seas too until Aug 2010 (Yeah, open house for me and my sis, gota keep an eye on her too even though she's older because she's into that whole wild party stuff even while the parents were home but outa town )

nope, recalls are effective pretty much for life generally. go in and mention the recall to them and they'll let you know if it applies to your vehicle.

Default Checks

True.

Dude, either way though - you need to take the car in ASAP. If this happens at 60mph on the freeway (especially during a turn) it could be deadly.

If you did not get a safety recall notice then call then dealership, and with your VIN they can see what safety recalls apply to your truck.

Take a look at the picture above: those two parts are supposed to be one part.

The result is that you cannot steer. The severity of this recall is without question....

The steering parts in question only apply to 1500 MC's and all 2500 and 3500 4x4's. My 2003 got the recall notice back in April or May.

Basically because the 1500 has a rack and pinion set-up, not the old style gearbox.
The 1500 Megacab uses the 2500 suspension pretty much with a solid front axle on the 4x4.

Excellent point lxman1.

I had a discussion on rack and pinion vs. the standard/old gearbox type steering systems with a friend of mine. We could not come to a conclusion whether one is better or not for heavy duty trucks. You guys have any opinions?
