Default Aftermarket Bed-light?

Hello! New to the forums here and just decided to make my first post here a productive one since I have a question that has been killing me to ask. I did a search on the forums and didn't come up with much but here it is..

Is it possible to install an offroad light in the place where the stock bed/cargo light is? I don't know if that's what you call it but it's the light that illuminates the bed (also back-up light?).

I've been trying to back out in the fields/woods and the stock one doesn't give me enough light to see far enough behind or has enough light when loading the bed up at night.

The truck is a 2004 Dodge ram Quad 5.7L.

Thanks!

Very interesting idea, but I would put a set of the auxillary back-up lights and wire them to a switch in the cab. The back-up lights are like $14 at autozone for the pair (I think they may actually be fog lamps, but I'm going to use them as backup lights under the bumper.)

Another interesting idea I saw sitting in traffic the other day is a Line-O-Fire (I think thats what it's called). Wired to the lights of the truck. It was only on one side of the bed, and he was a lane over so I couldn't get a good look/talk to the guy but it looked like a pretty nifty idea.

The Fire & Ice light bar looks like it might brighten things up, it lights up in reverse in white. im trying to buy a used one right now. i cant really tell just how bright the reverse lights are though.

they make some that plug into your hitch and are wired to the trailer light recepticle. They even make one that will still allow you to use the hitch. i forget where i saw it at though.......I think it was JC Whitney.

i could use a brighter cargo light as well for doing snow removal at night. one option you could look at is getting a back rack and then attaching some high quality auxillary lights to it. the racks have pre drilled holes for extra lighting, might be the more expensive option but at least your rear window will be protected.

The light bar won't be very bright. I have these: http://www.gorecon.com/product.php?p...ights&p_cat=46

Or there's these like cali said: http://www.autotrucktoys.com/ram/Whi...6559C1131.aspx

Thanks for the replies guys. I do like the light bar idea but I'm looking for a lot of light.

I'm just wondering if you could somehow get into the light casing of the back-up/cargo light area, pop that off and either add another light into it or replace the stock one with a higher intensity light.

I didn't know that I even had a cargo light in back till about 2 days ago (just got the truck) and I was like "that needs to be way brighter.." But I really do like the placement of the light.

Has anyone ever tried this before?

Thanks again guys
