transmission temp gauge
i've tried searching the site and can't seem to find the answers so i thought i would "renew" this topic....
im thinking about installing a transmission temp gauge and am not sure where to install the sending unit....im wanting to install somewhere in the lines with a manifold to avoid having to drill my pan...
which line should i place the sending unit in.... the supply or return line going to the cooler and which line is which? also will i get any restricted flow using this manifold?? any input is appreciated!!

I am going to be putting in a remote filter and temp gauge. I am going to use a Derale kit. http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku When I talked with them I was told the relocation filter has a port tapped for the temp. sending unit. All you need to do is mount the filter, connect incoming and out going hoses and then wire up the gauge.

"I spoke to guy in Arizona at TeamRamco regarding this very issue. They build and rebuild racing, RV and heavy-duty tow transmissions. All they do is transmissions. I was told the oil line coming out of the trans to the cooler is the place to put the sensor. You want to know what temps coming out of the transmission are."

The fluid coming out of the cooler is NOT an indicator of the temp of the tranny. The tranny may not be cooling down sufficiently despite the valiant efforts of the cooler. Tap the supply side/ inlet line to the cooler.
with the slippage and friction of the torque converter the fluid id always at its hottest and is not the indication of the temp of your tranny. The best place is in the pan but the second best in the return from the cooler...
