yea, i mean the 07 an up have that nice clean tailgate with the spoiler so i think to keep the older tails would have made the rear of the truck REALLY plain, so after getting rid of that ridge around the tailgate handle they added the bulged tail light to add more interest.

So a safety factor would be the reason why they changed the taillights back to the smooth flat ones like before.
As far as the curves, the bulge just doesn't work on them. I just don't like them at all.

i think they changed back to the smooth ones for the 09s because those style tails just wouldnt work with the new body. I think they fit the 07-08s better
