H.O. Cams vs 206

I was interested in installing H.O. cams, but heard you only gain about 20-25H.P. I like them because its plug and play and doesnt require custom tuning . But, for the extra 3-400.00, I might as well go with some 206's if theres alot more gains. Does anybody know how much power can be gained over the H.O. by getting 206's? Would this require a tune or any other additional modifications?

Really a good set of cams for a heavy QC truck and especially a QC 4x4 with a 4.7. I'd think a set of 206s, custom flash, higher flowing intake/exhaust and 4.56 gears would put you in Hemi territory off the line...

Do you have to get a custom tune for the 206's and 212's? Just wondering, I was looking at the H.O.'s, but if the difference down low is that much, the 206's seem to be the better option.
Hammer, are yo're numbers right? 65-70 ft/lbs? Is that with a tune also? Not doubting you, just seems like a lot.

From a dyno run by KRC Performance:
"With a custom flash and 206 cams only the 4X4 Dakota dyno test was 171HP/235ftlb rear wheel before and 198HP/295ftlb rear wheel after! That is 36hp/66ft/lb crank gains!"
Weightlifter, I have no data on the 212x, but I know Marty has been pushing them big time! I also know that unlike the 206, the 212x requires a bigger throttle body, headers and a stronger torque converter, so you will be running into a lot more expense...

I was just going to say that. When you run the 206's and 212's, your going to need some serious mods.
The guys from airram has got an 02(?) QCSB 2wd. He's running 212 cams at the moment, and says that he had better 1/8th mile times with the HO cams. They seem to be a great cam for the money, and for the lack of modification you need. If I were to run a new set of cams, I would go HO in a heartbeat.
I would also invest in a new set of springs and retainers while your at it. Do what you can while youve got it opened up!

Well I am planning on putting a 72mm TB in, gibson headers, CAI, and a new TQ converter so I am not worried about that. I don't want to get to the point of where I need an aftermarket underdrive pully, but I want the most amount of low end tq possible. I think the 206's would be stonger than the H/O's, espescially once tuned. Hammer if you talk to marty could you ask him what the rough fiqures are on the 212x cams?

H/O's wont give you that much gain. I and a few members who have them are not happy with them. From what airram has stated before, you will need to upgrade the heads to get the true gain of the h/o's. As soon as I get the money, I will be taking out my h/o's and have them regrind to 206 specs. And you can be lighlty modded to run 206 cams. There are members on other forums who have superchips, intake andexhaust along with the 206s and are putting out great times.
