Default off white SLUDGE at top of oil filler??

So this cant be good. A mechanic friend of mine told me its 1 of 2 things... A blown head gasket (which he doesnt think so because the truck doesnt over heat) or a sensor (forgot the name of it that he told me)

It was pretty gunked up on the oil cap and and in the filler tube. I drained the Oil to do an oil change and it seemed pretty normal from what came out of the oil pan. He says that I should watch to make sure my anti freeze disappearing out of the over fill tank because thats a bad sign (blown head gasket)

Have you guys had any problems like this at all?

its an 03 1500 4.7

thanks for the help!

I heard once before on this site being only on the oil cap it could just be engine condensation. Do you make alot of short trips? Check the antifreeze use of course, but if you see nothing going away, thats prolly what it is.

thanks for the quick responses guys. I dont really do short trips, I drive 40 miles one way to work.
He also did tell me they were common on dodges but it scared the hell outta me . I had an audi the last car and blew a head gasket...So I was hoping not to have a repeater!

the anti freeze has never been low on me. Ive had the truck for a little over a yr now.

I was about a month /1000 miles over an oil change... which I shouldnt of let it get that far. so hopefully u guys are right and its nothing to worrry about!

thanks for the help!

I change oil for a living and see this on pretty much all dodges. Unless the oil on the dipstick is milky, you shouldnt have a blown head gasket unless its on the other side, in that case your truck would be really hard to start.

Don't EVER believe what is on the dipstick or filler cap. Believe what comes out of the bottom!!! If it's pure oil coming out the bottom, no sign of anti-freeze, no sign of sludge, you are good to go...

It sounds like condensation, pretty common on these trucks.

condensation...put an engine flush in at your next oil change...it will clean all that milky stuff out of the block

I see it a lot at the top of my filler tube. Every time I do an oil change I wipe it off and it comes back in a matter of a few weeks. Don't think its any big deal. I run synthetic and every time I change the oil, it looks like conventional when its new.
