Question Water Pump

04 with only 42k miles!

Does this sound normal? Seems rather soon to me.

Does anyone know if a dealer replaces hoses on an 04 with 42k miles? How about serpentine belt? The reason I ask is I have extended warranty and considering the $100 deductible vs doing it myself with all new hoses and belt.

It's soon for a water pump to go, but I've seen 'em go sooner too. I had a Nissan Sentra Wagon was one of my business vehicles. Bought it with about 85k on it, when I sold it along with the business it had 285k on it. Other than a clutch and normal wear and tear stuff, the thing ate water pumps, could never get more than 50k out of one and as little as 19k on one. Other than that, the thing was a tank, sometimes going 15k without an oil change and then with the cheapest brand conventional Wal-Mart had...

Thanks. Any advise on the other questions? Hoses and belt?

the dealer is going to do exactly what they need to for a warranty repair. maint./wear items gonna come out your pocket.
I'd do them myself...

I like to do work like that but the weather sure isn't cooperating either and it'll be $200 for me and $100 for them to do it....

Since I don't need the truck every day I am leaning towards doing it myself too.

...Isn't this why you purchased the extended warranty?...

I got the warranty more for the really big things or for something like this in the middle of the winter when I need the truck and working on it myself is out of the question because of the weather. I like to work on it especially when I can just stop for the day if I get tired or frustrated.

f' that, let the dealer do it if you have an extended warranty. If you see that the hoses and stuff weren't done, you still have the extra $ left over to do it yourself.

The money isn't the overwhelming driver although it is a factor. I can get a brand spanking new water pump for less than the deductible ($85). Swapping hoses means I have to buy replacement coolant or save the stuff they put in (not a fan of that with possible contamination). Add the cost of the hoses, fluids and serpentine belt I am pretty close in overall cost.

I had my waterpump done @ 65k. It was under warranty. It was ready to break at any moment. They did the serpentine belt, T stat replacement and lower radiator hose labor free; all I had to do was buy the parts.
These water pumps and radiators are pretty bad. My radiator went like 3-400 miles after the water pump replacement.
