I just bought my 03 1500 4.7 with 97K miles. This is the first Dodge I've had since my 87'.I know many different makes have there own specific sound.Mine makes a whining in the front of the motor. My first thought was water pump.Any thoughts anyone?
I would say the alternator or one of the pulleys. There is one tentioner and 2 idler pulleys if I remember right. Mine was doing that and I found a idler pulley bad and my alternator had a bearing going in it. Hope this helps.
It's hard to say, it could be anything. Use a stethoscope or a long screwdriver placed between each component and to your ear to see where the sound is the loudest. Of course be careful of the belt... Check the pulleys, alternator, water pump, a/c compressor, and power steering pump.
most likely an alternator. mine did the same thing, i think it sounds like rubbing two symbols together in a circular pattern, does it get alittle louder when you accelerate?
