Default 90k miles, and a blown engine!

I have a 2003 hemi that just turned 90k miles, while driving down the highway the other day, the engine started to vibrate, before i could get off the road, it had stopped running. After getting it towed to the dealer, i was informed that the engine had thrown a rod. They are telling me its 6k to fix this thing. Does this sound right? I am having trouble finding out what the powertrain waranty is on this, I am not a bit happy at all. Any suggestions on what i should do from here would be appreciated, im not sure its worth putting 6 thousand dollars into it...Thanks!

I would find a wrecked ram at the wreckers and get the motor outta it. it would be alot cheaper.

that sucks to have it blow at only 90k. did you keep the maintance up on it? and what mods do you have?

I think i may try and find a wrecked truck, after i hear from dodge. Im not asking for a new engine for free, i just think its a little rediculous to tell me its gonna be 6 grand to fix. I find it a little funny the dealership is telling me the "remanufactured engine will have a 100k mile waranty" . I laughed at the guy and asked him why the waranty on the "new" engine when i bought the truck wasnt 100k miles? Anyways, truck has always had its maintanace done, im meticulous when it comes to that. No mods on it whatsoever, i cant believe the engine gave out, thats very uncommon for any manufacture to have engine problems under 100k miles.

You should be able to get a used engine for under $2,500 installed with a fairly decent warranty.

First of all your original warranty was a 7 year/ 70k mile powertrain.

Which engine 4.7 or Hemi? I'm guessing 4.7 and I'd bet that there was a good bit of sludge in it, keeping the sending unit from getting oil up into the engine. Just conjecture on my part, but it's an issue with the 4.7s.

ebay motors is full of remanufactured 4.7s in the $2000-2400 range with 3 year, 100,000 mile warranties. BTW, your dealer told you 100k, but I bet he didn't tell you that it was 3 year, did he?

LOL... While your at it, When you get the replacement take this opertunity to beef up the new engine, Throw in some upgraded valves, springs, new cam, better fuel injectors. All this can be done for not to much more.

Heck, I would be wondering if there was anyway to stick a 6.1 in there.

Obviously, I need to take the time to actually read the post, huh?
I'm trying to answer too many at one time again...

I've not heard of a Hemi going at such low miles, unless it was a sure sign of neglect. You should be able to find one in a junkyard for around $2000 and remans are going for around $3000...
