This is a perfect description of a "mechanic" that you should never visit again.

took him 4.5 hours to do an oil change... wtf was he doing beating his meat at the same time jesus... I did in a total of that time oil change with filter, rear differential fluid drain and refill, front diff fluid refill. For both diffs I also took off all of the old sealant and put new on didn't just half **** that ****. O and the front is a PITA too because the crossmember is smack dab in front of it.

Honestly boss if you're halfway decent with a wrench you should be able to do the diffs yourself. This was the first time i've ever done them and It was relatively easy IMO. Not the most fun in the world but not terrible.

Unhappy Thanks all

I feel much better. But with all that happening I got up to go to work this morning at 6 am and looked under the truck and I have about 3 liters of trans fluid leaking from the pan. I then called him over and over and he never answed me untill 4 hours later. And then he told me the gasket and filter set i got for the truck swas crap and thats why it leaked. So I live way out of town like 30 mins away, so I had to get someone to come and pick me up so I could get into town to get my car. So now he is going to get his own gasket set tommorrow and put it on and I said to him I am not PAYING you anymore for doing this. But i will have to pay for more oil and the old kit thats on now i was told i could bring it back for a full refund at the supply store. The guy at the supply store said it not the gasket either it the dumb *** that put it on.

The only reason I don't do my own work is cause the truck is under warranty and I'm not allowed to touch nothing at all and i have checked into it.
If I could i would be doing it all cause I do know alot and have even rebuilt my chev sprint engine.
So I hopr tommorrow goes better and now i still have to get my diffs.. do BUT by someone else...

Does the front diff need a gasket or just sealer after taking the plate off?

You can do your own labor bro and it will not void your warranty. Now if you are an idiot and do something wrong yea you will cause damage. Almost every member on this forum does their own labor and I don't know of anyone that got a warranty voided because of it. If a dealer is telling you that they are retarded. Since you are mechanically experienced then I highly recommend you do the work yourself it's the only way you will know it's done right.

both diffs have just RTV sealant from the factory. one time use deal. you take out the 12, 13mm bolts pry off the cover and then scrape off as much of the old sealant as possible and you apply new stuff.. really any gasket maker sealant will do. just apply fairly liberally and put it back on and tighten the bolts in an alternation pattern or in a way that gets you even pressure all the way around.

sounds like the gasket wasn't put in right on the trans pan. I have a stick so IDK what the auto pan looks like. but he should've put the gasket on and used some gasket maker/RTV/Sealant whatever you want to call it to make sure that there was a good seal. I'm gonna be serious I've done a lot of my own work and i've never had a gasket leak... you gotta f up pretty bad to make that happen.

and here's another thing if and i mean if the gasket set you got was bad and he knew it... WHY THE **** didn't he tell you????????? instead he just slapped it together... what a moron. When i was an installer (ccity got laid off) if someone brought in junk i wouldn't install it. because if there are problems it comes back on me anyway.. that's a huge indication that he's just making excuses because if somethign as crucial as a gasket was bad why did he use it to begin with??

Honestly you are in more of a spot causing your warranty to be voided by taking it to a ****ty mechanic than doing it yourself. I woudln't even let him touch that truck again.. I'd get money back and tell him to stuff it. And how'd he get oil from the oil change on the bottom of the truck??? I don't see how he could do that easily.. this guy must be some dumbass.

The dealer warranty is not problem it is the extended warranty that they say I can't do my own work. And for this guy I am not done with him. My wife has contacted the BBB and I am getting ahold of my lawyer and taking him to court. When he took the trans bolts for the pan all out at once and then pryed down and then oil went everywhere.I told him to take a few out at once and then loosen the others so you can pry down and get it to drain before undoing all the bolts but NO did he listen nope...Got to get some sleep and think more on this...what an f**ken day...

I see you bought a warranty from a third party.... read through the contracts I don't think anyone can tell you not to do your own work and they can only void the warranty due to a reason that could be brought back to you doing the work improperly.

yea he's definately a moron tho.
